I was sitting in my office early one morning, watching the solar monitoring screen.

The sun was barely up. Clouds were still hanging around. But the voltage reading was higher than what I see at 2 PM on a blazing afternoon.

That did not make sense at first.

Shouldn't more sun mean more voltage?

Not exactly.

Let me explain what is actually happening.

Solar voltage is not just about sunlight intensity. Temperature plays a bigger role than most people realise.

Solar panels are rated at 25°C.

In the cool morning, the panels are cold. Voltage is naturally higher. Electrical resistance is lower. That is why your open circuit voltage can be higher at 8 AM than at 2 PM.

As the day heats up, the panel temperature rises. Voltage drops. Efficiency decreases.

That is physics.

Why does this matter?

If your solar system was designed without temperature correction, those cool morning spikes can push voltage close to your inverter's maximum limit. In extreme climates, it can even trigger overvoltage protection.

A good installer calculates the voltage at the lowest expected temperature, then builds in a safety margin.

Your Solar System Is Protecting You, But Who’s Checking the Protector? 🤷🏿‍♂️

As a client prioritizes checking ur breaker box because sometimes ur DC surge might have been damaged after protecting ur system and it will need urgent replacement so that it will still be functioning 💯% for u, there might be a bit of cable burnt also. Regular checks are important.
