Have you ever wondered what would happen if our country Nigeria begins to experience 24 hours supply? I mean supply of light 366 all round the clock. I hear someone says it's not possible in my life time. But If someone had told you in the 90s that someday mobile phone would be something that an old woman in one interior village would be using to call her son in the city. You would also say not in my life time. For the moment, most substandard electrical products seems to withstand the epileptic supply. So for now we can get away with it. But that doesn't make it OK. Even if a lie is told 1000 times by 1000 people it doesn't make it truth. Most people are not so lucky as they have lost properties worth millions and most disheartening lives. Most of the quack technicians produced these days would tell u it doesn't matter, or the landlord would say " it's tenant house I need cheap materials " and no matter how you try to convince them, they would tell u but how much is the tenant paying me. Corruption has eaten deep into man that even the bones are not left out, if people could produce fake drugs and push to the market, then importing wires made of iron is a child's play. O mortal man where lies your conscience? People are selling substandard products because people are willing to buy it, there is actually a market for it, people are selling substandard electrical because there are unqualified electricians ready to offer it to their client, people are selling substandard product because the so called regulatory body SON chose to look the other way while lining their back pocket with bribes. Unless things change, it will continue to thrive.
It's only a disaster waiting to happen in the nearest future, if and when power supply becomes constant. And even if power supply isn't constant we will continue to experience pockets of fire incidents as a result of substandard electrical products and quack electricians.
