A damaging misconception sometimes presents service as servitude. If this belief is passed to children, they may grow up seeing helpfulness as weakness and customer service as work without dignity.
We must teach a different story.
Service is the intentional use of our abilities to solve problems, create positive experiences and make other people feel valued. It requires confidence, emotional intelligence, responsibility and leadership.
Part of being truly great is being excellent to the people around you.
When we root our children in the pride of who they are as Africans, we give them the confidence to serve the world with dignity and excellence.
