A building doesn’t just collapse overnight.

In most cases, it’s the result of one or more avoidable mistakes made before, during, or even after construction.

Here are 10 common reasons buildings collapse:

1. Cheap or unskilled labour

2. Lack of professional supervision

3. Substandard building materials

4. Poor structural design

5. No soil test (investigation) before construction

6. Lack of periodic structural inspections after construction

7. Illegal structural alterations or renovations

8. Overloading the building beyond its design capacity

9. Corruption and cutting corners during construction
