Tack Coat vs Prime Coat
Prime Coat: Applied on a prepared granular base before the first bituminous layer. It penetrates the surface, binds loose particles, reduces dust, and improves adhesion.
Tack Coat: Applied between an existing bituminous or concrete surface and a new bituminous layer. Its main purpose is to create a strong bond between the two layers.
Key Difference:
Prime Coat = Base β First bituminous layer
Tack Coat = Existing pavement β New bituminous layer
