Some times back , while coordinating a road drainge construction system
in an Estate in Ibadan , I realized the cement being used had gone past its shelf life by almost 4 months! I stopped work immediately and notified the Client through his manager, after a little delay , I was told to continue , so I decided to write a report of events which I sent out to the client
Few days later It rained heavily and the drainage walls came down! It had simply refused to Set despite our Standard mix ratio of 1: 2:4, and in some sections the setting was uneven , we eventually had to bring everything down , around 22m of linear reinforced concrete wall.
Resources in Manpower , Time and money gone ! we spent more than the labour cost It took to cast in breaking down and removing the rubbles .
Of course , that report exonerated me but not totally. A few shrapnel still flew my way i.e why did I not insist the work be stopped!
When events happen under your watch, you must own then regardless of the outcome , It then behoves you to ensure your say is FINAL ..
