A TURNING POINT THAT CHANGED A LIFE FOREVER

August 7, 1993 — Kyiv, Ukraine.

For more than 7,400 people, that day marked a profound turning point. For one 15-year-old traveling from Rostov-on-Don, Russia, it became the beginning of a completely new chapter in life.

At the Kyiv convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 7,402 adults were baptized in just 2 hours and 15 minutes, while approximately 64,000 people watched, applauded, and sang. Six baptism pools had been prepared on the field of the Republican Stadium, creating a remarkable scene that was later featured in the 1994 Britannica Book of the Year.

More than 60,000 people from across the former Soviet Union gathered in Kyiv from August 5–8, 1993, united by their faith in Jehovah God. Hotels, dormitories, and even ferries along the Dnipro River accommodated delegates. The atmosphere was unforgettable—thousands of fellow believers greeting one another with warmth and joy.

But behind the extraordinary numbers were thousands of individual stories of faith.

For those baptized that day, baptism represented much more than being part of a historic event. It symbolized repentance, dedication to Jehovah, and the decision to live according to Bible principles, following the example of Jesus Christ.

For this young 15-year-old, the journey had involved spiritual searching, discovering Bible truth, prayer, reflection, developing genuine faith, and overcoming a harmful addiction. Baptism marked the beginning of a Christian life that would continue for decades.

When the newly baptized ones returned to Rostov-on-Don, they were invited onto the platform during a congregation meeting. Exactly 30 of them stood together.

Thirty lives changed.
Thirty decisions made.
Thirty stories beginning a new chapter.

More than three decades later, the memory remains deeply meaningful.

Sometimes one decision can change the direction of an entire life.

🕊️ AFTER THREE YEARS IN PRISON, BROTHER PAVEL KAZADAYEV IS FINALLY FREE!

A Young Brother Who Remained Faithful Under Strict Conditions

Our worldwide brotherhood has another reason to rejoice. Brother Pavel Kazadayev, 29, was released on August 14, 2026, from a penal colony in Rubtsovsk, Altai Territory, Russia. He had spent the entire three years of his imprisonment under strict conditions.

📖 WHY WAS PAVEL IMPRISONED?

Pavel was convicted because of his religious activity, specifically for discussing the Bible with his friends.

For Pavel, talking about the Bible was an important part of his Christian life. He continued to value his faith despite the serious consequences that followed.

His experience reminds us that something as simple as discussing God's Word with others can be very precious to a Christian.

🙏 THREE YEARS OF ENDURANCE

Imagine being only 29 years old and spending three years of your life in prison.

Pavel had to endure strict prison conditions throughout his sentence. Yet he remained faithful.

His experience can encourage anyone who is currently going through a difficult period. Sometimes our trials may not involve imprisonment, but we may face loneliness, opposition, financial problems, family difficulties, or other pressures.

The question is:

Will we continue trusting Jehovah when life becomes difficult?

❤️ HIS RELEASE BROUGHT JOY

On August 14, 2026, Pavel finally walked out of the penal colony after completing his sentence.

For him, his family, friends, and fellow believers, this must have been a deeply emotional moment.

After three years behind prison walls, ordinary things such as freedom, being with loved ones, and worshipping with fellow believers can feel incredibly precious.

🌿 WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM PAVEL?

Pavel's experience teaches us several valuable lessons:

1. Don't give up when trials come.
A difficult situation can last longer than we expect, but we can continue relying on Jehovah.

2. Value God's Word.
Pavel was imprisoned for discussing the Bible with friends. His example reminds us how important God's Word is to true Christians.

3. Remain loyal even under pressure.
Faith is especially valuable when it is tested.

4. Appreciate Christian freedom.
We should never take our opportunity to meet together, pray, study the Bible, and encourage one another for granted.

📖 A SCRIPTURE FOR ENCOURAGEMENT

The apostle Paul wrote:

«"Let us not give up in doing what is fine, for in due time we will reap if we do not tire out." — Galatians 6:9.»

Brother Pavel's experience is a beautiful reminder of those words.

He endured.

He did not give up.

And now he is free.

💙 FINAL THOUGHT

We rejoice with Brother Pavel Kazadayev following his release and remember all the brothers and sisters who are still experiencing imprisonment or other restrictions because of their faith.

May Pavel's example encourage each of us to strengthen our relationship with Jehovah and remain faithful no matter what challenges we face.

💬 QUESTION FOR YOU

If you were in Pavel's situation, what Bible verse would you want to remember every day to help you remain strong?

💔😭 A TRAGIC LOSS OF A JW PIONEER SISTER IN HONDURAS

With deep sadness, we share the heartbreaking news of the death of our dear sister Yamalia Escoto, affectionately known as Talita, in Honduras.

Sister Talita was reportedly shot and kill33d while driving toward the La Jutosa area of Choloma, in the department of Cortés, northern Honduras. She was accompanied by her husband, Cristopher Russell, a U.S. citizen, who was also seriously wounded in the attack and taken to an emergency medical center.

According to preliminary reports, the couple had reportedly left a bank shortly before the incident. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the events that followed. Because the investigation is ongoing, details about the motive and exactly what happened remain subject to confirmation.

Beyond the tragic circumstances of her death, we remember Sister Talita as a pioneer sister who loved Jehovah and devoted herself to serving him. Her sudden death is a painful reminder of how much suffering violence and crime continue to cause innocent people around the world.

💔 Our heartfelt condolences go to her husband, family, congregation, friends, and everyone who knew and loved her. We also pray that Cristopher will receive the medical care he needs and that Jehovah will give the family the strength and comfort they desperately need at this difficult time.

We long for the day when Jehovah's promise will become reality—a world where violence, crime, suffering, and death will be things of the past.

«“The wicked will be no more.” — Psalm 37:10»

May we remember this grieving family in our prayers. 🙏❤️

🌍 WHEN THE EARTH SHAKES, NO ONE CAN SAY, “IT WON’T HAPPEN HERE.” 😨🌏

August 2026 has been a painful reminder of just how unpredictable our planet can be.

On August 15, a powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off the coast of Flores Island, Indonesia, near Ende. The shallow earthquake triggered landslides, damaged homes and public facilities, and prompted tsunami warnings. Waves of more than a meter were recorded in some areas, while rescue teams struggled to reach communities cut off by damaged roads and landslides. Tragically, dozens of lives were lost and thousands of people were affected.

Then, in the early hours of August 15, another earthquake struck Alhendín, near Granada, Spain. The magnitude was initially reported as 5.0 and later assessed by some sources at 4.8. The shaking was felt across several provinces, causing cracks, falling debris and other damage. More than 200 emergency calls were received, and Andalusia activated its seismic emergency plan. Thankfully, no deaths were reported.

And these events came after other major earthquakes this year.

📍 June 24, 2026 — Venezuela: A powerful sequence of earthquakes struck north-central Venezuela, creating a major humanitarian emergency and affecting hundreds of thousands of people in areas exposed to severe shaking.

📍 June 8, 2026 — Sangihe, Indonesia: A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck offshore, prompting a tsunami warning. Minor tsunami waves were detected before the warning was ended.

📍 August 10, 2026 — Colombia: A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia, causing devastating destruction and leaving hundreds dead and thousands injured.

🌎 The Earth keeps reminding us that life can change in a matter of seconds.

One moment, people are sleeping in their homes, caring for their families, working, travelling or simply enjoying an ordinary day. The next moment, the ground beneath them begins to move.

These tragedies should move us—not only to prepare physically, but also to reflect spiritually.

The Bible foretold that in our time there would be “great earthquakes.” — Luke 21:11

We cannot predict where the next earthquake will strike. We cannot control the forces beneath the Earth. But we can strengthen our faith and our relationship with Jehovah.

💙 Our world may feel increasingly uncertain, but Jehovah remains certain.

Let us remember those affected by these disasters in our prayers and, where possible, show compassion and practical love to those suffering.

🙏 May Jehovah give comfort to those who have lost loved ones, strength to those who are injured or displaced, and wisdom and courage to those working tirelessly to rescue and help others.

“Jehovah is near to those that are broken at heart.” — Psalm 34:18

🌏 The earth may shake—but our faith in Jehovah does not have to.

GUINEA LANDFILL DISASTERS: WHEN TRAGEDY STRIKES, WHERE CAN WE FIND HOPE?

CONAKRY, GUINEA — August 24, 2026 — A devastating disaster in Guinea’s capital, Conakry, has left families mourning and a community struggling to comprehend the loss.

On Sunday, August 23, heavy rainfall reportedly triggered the collapse of a massive mound of waste at the Dar Es Salam landfill in the Gbessia area. The landslide swept into nearby tents, makeshift structures and homes, killing 30 people, according to government figures. Several others were seriously or moderately injured, while rescue teams continued searching through the debris for possible survivors.

The tragedy is especially painful because authorities had already expressed concerns about the landfill’s safety. Plans had reportedly been announced to close the site and relocate the waste, while residents living nearby had been urged to evacuate because of the risks associated with the rainy season.

A Painful Reminder of Life’s Uncertainty

Disasters like this remind us how suddenly life can change. Families may begin an ordinary day with no expectation that tragedy is about to enter their lives.

The Bible realistically acknowledges this uncertainty. Ecclesiastes 9:11 says that “time and unexpected events” can affect people. This does not mean that God is indifferent to human suffering. Rather, the Bible explains that people living in an imperfect world can be affected by circumstances and unexpected events beyond their control.

Jesus also rejected the idea that victims of sudden disasters necessarily deserved what happened to them. At Luke 13:1-5, he referred to people who died unexpectedly and used the event to emphasize the uncertainty of life—not to suggest that those victims were being punished by God.

COMPASSION IN THE THE FACE OF TRAGEDY

In the aftermath of such a disaster, compassion is more than words. Rescue workers face the difficult task of searching through dangerous debris. Injured survivors need medical care, while families who have lost loved ones may need emotional support, shelter, food and other necessities.

The Bible encourages us to respond to suffering with genuine empathy. Romans 12:15 says: “Weep with those who weep.”

Although many of us may be far from Guinea, we can still show concern for those affected. We can avoid spreading unverified information, offer sincere prayers and, where possible, support legitimate relief efforts assisting victims and displaced families.

A HOPE BEYOND TODAY'S TRAGEDY

The Bible offers more than temporary comfort. It presents a promise of a future when tragedies, suffering and death will no longer dominate human life.

At Revelation 21:3, 4, the Bible promises that God will be with mankind and that “death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.”

That promise gives grieving people something meaningful to look forward to—a time when families will no longer have to fear losing loved ones because of disasters, unsafe conditions or other causes of suffering.

The Bible also points to God’s Kingdom as the government that will bring lasting peace and security to the earth. Psalm 37:10, 11 describes a future in which wickedness will disappear and people will enjoy abundant peace.

This hope does not minimize the suffering experienced in Guinea. Instead, it assures us that the pain and injustice we see today are not the permanent future God intends for humanity.

Remembering Those Who Lost Their Lives

The reported 30 deaths represent far more than a number.

Behind every victim was a name, a family, a history, dreams for the future and people who loved them. For relatives and friends now facing the painful reality of loss, words may seem inadequate.

Yet the Bible gives this comforting assurance at Psalm 34:18: “Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; he saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

That promise can provide strength to those who are grieving and remind them that their pain is not unseen.

The disaster in Conakry is a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of safe communities, responsible environmental management, effective disaster preparedness and compassion for vulnerable people.

But it also points to a deeper hope. The Bible assures us that God’s purpose for humanity is not a world dominated by tragedy, suffering and death.

“May the God of all comfort” strengthen those who have lost loved ones and bring relief to everyone affected by this heartbreaking disaster. — 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4.

RUSSIA

On July 10, 2026, in Vladikavkaz, law enforcement officers conducted searches at several addresses and interrogated 16 Jehovah's Witnesses. Three of them — Khetag Dzhanayev and the couple Zaur and Zarema Tavitov — ended up in a temporary detention facility. On July 12, the court placed them under house arrest.

Searches began early in the morning simultaneously in several homes. One of them lasted more than 10 hours. Electronic and storage devices, including mobile phones and a camera, as well as personal notes, Bibles, and bank cards were seized from believers.

Law enforcement officers pinned one of those whose home was searched against the wall, twisted his arms behind his back, then forced him face down onto the floor. According to the believer's wife, law enforcement officers stepped on his legs. One of the officers demanded that he state the password for his phone. The man refused, after which rough force was used against him in an attempt to unlock his phone using the facial recognition system.

These are not the first Jehovah's Witnesses in the republic who have faced criminal prosecution for their faith. Sabina Albegova from Vladikavkaz has been under investigation since October 2025 (her case is already under consideration in court), and since April 2026, Kristina Bazrova is in the same situation.
