*DEMOCRACY, POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS/ELECTED OFFICES AND IGBO EZE NORTH POLITICIANS; CURSE OR BLESSING?*

Considering the number of coups taking place in some West African countries in recent times at Mali, Burkina Faso, etc, with some of them sharing common boundaries with Nigeria, Nigerians actually have a course to celebrate the uninterrupted smooth transition of democratic regimes of which Igbo Eze North is one.

In Igbo Eze North, we have not just been celebrating uninterrupted democratic rule since 1999; we are also celebrating active participation of our brothers in the successive regimes in Enugu State.

For instance:
In Chimaroke's regime, Senator Ayogu Eze from Umuida was the Commissioner for Information. Sen. Ayogu Eze was subsequently elected into the red chamber of the national assembly, representing Enugu North Senatorial Zone where he chaired the senate committee on information in his first tenure and the senate committee chairman on works in his second tenure.

In Sulivan Chime's regime, Hon. Emeka Abugu from Umuopu was the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Matters. Engr. Simon Atigwe from Aji was the Chairman of Enugu State Rural Electrification Board. Festus Oshaba (Ferotex) from Umuagama was the Chairman, board of Enugu State Rangers International Football Club.

In current Governor Ugwuanyi's regime, Amb. Fidel Ayogu from Umuopu was the Commissioner for Environment. Ejikeme Odumegwu (Owelle) from Umuopu was the PA to the governor on mobilization while Emeka Mama (Ide) from Ugbaike is also a commissioner..many more not mentioned.

When one of our sons has served as the chairman of the senate committees for works, we still cry of uncompleted Ogrute-Amaja, Ogrute-Umuopu and Ogrute-Aguibeje roads. At this level of human development when our own son has served as the commissioner for information, we have no radio or TV station. There's no factory where the sons and daughters of Igbo Eze North can seek employment reduce crimes.

With all these, Igbo Eze North can't cry of political marginalization as far as appointment and elective political offices are concerned. However, inspite all these, there's a very important question on the lips of Igbo Eze North indigenes still left unanswered.
The question is: Are all these political opportunities curses or blessings to the whole indigenes of Igbo Eze North? Considering the lagging and sluggish growth in our infrastructural and socio-economic percentage and what our brothers(politicians) had offered since the return of democracy in the country in terms of economic, infrastructural and educational growth, one will have no choice than to see politics in our society as a game of deceit and fruitless adventure.

The only benefit of the citizens of Igbo Eze North since the service of these aforementioned individuals are countless billboards, campaign posters, crates of beer, abandoned projects, etc. It is now left for every conscientious son or daughter of Enugu-Ezike/Ette to determine whether our long time political appointments, positions and possessions have been curses or blessings to our people.

CONSEQUENCES OF UNDERDEVELOPMENT (PART ONE): IGBO EZE NORTH AS A SAMPLE

Joyce had earlier wanted to do her financial transactions with the POS agent at the petrol station near Good Message Hospital where her son laid helplessly, gasping for air.

"Aunty, this your card has expired o," the young woman in her late thirties said to her. She was already attending to another customer who stood akimbo with long beard. He wasn't smiling at anyone. He too, looked worried and unkempt.

"What did you say, nwannemchi?" Joyce asked in awe.

"Check the expiry date naah," the young woman replied again, not looking at her, this time. She had a piece of gum which she chewed continually. Her complexion was such a confusing one - a mixture of half-baked brown and fair colours. She had settled the young man in long beards and then picked her piece of broken mirror and pancake brush; perhaps, she wanted to repaint her already fading whitish colour.

"Chei, let me rush to Nsukka then." Joyce was already talking to herself while leaving the office. She hurriedly boarded a motorcycle that took her to Nsukka park. Chiedu, her husband had sent them the one hundred thousand naira demanded by the hospital before commencing treatment on their only son; a boy of ten years. Her plan was to withdraw the money and rush back to the cashier since it was a stone's throw but now, she had to go to Nsukka to purchase another Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) card before making the withdrawal because THERE WAS NO BANK IN THE WHOLE OF IGBO EZE NORTH where one could do such.

It was already some minutes past five. Ajuluchukwu, her son was taking his last breath and the nurses had become so worried. Since non of them had her phone number, they only showed concern to the young man but couldn't do more. They had to wait for his mother. They only stroked his head and told him 'sorry, _kah, ndo, gbaga.'

Just some poles after Umeanor Junction, two young men in a motorcycle double-crossed them - Joyce and the man at the front, fondly called onye Okada. The Okada rider who was on top speed had to swerve the motorcycle to be on the safe side. They had already brought out pistols even when Joyce and the Okada rider were already in the gutter with bruises.
"Oya give us the money, osiso!" They commanded.

Some hours later, Chiedu started calling seriously. A medical nurse beside her at the emergency room of Hope in God Hospital, Ibagwa-Aka answered him because she was too weak to pick a call. Their son had died - the only hope they had had for years after battling with infertility.

The above fiction satirically and systematically exposes the consequences of a sort of problem a local government as large as Igbo Eze North could face due to the absence of at least, one commercial bank under it.

If you were Chiedu, how would you see your place, the government, the stakeholders, those at the helm of affairs and top bank officials who are sons and daughters of Igbo Eze North? Do you know that someone elsewhere may be passing through such trauma? Do you know it could happen to anyone tomorrow, including yourself?

Why not do your best and help Igbo Eze North out of underdevelopment now that you can?

CONSEQUENCES OF UNDERDEVELOPMENT IN THE 21ST CENTURY: IGBO EZE NORTH AS A SAMPLE

Underdevelopment means the state of not being developed, i.e. a society not possessing some of the qualities of modernity. For a society to be considered developed in this 21st century, there are basic expectations which include functional and steady electricity, portable pipe borne water, good and accessible roads, industries, smooth internet service, good markets, good security system, commercial banks and other financial institutions. Among all these, our local government cannot boast of having any in abundance and as expected. It is true that one cannot satisfy the masses at the same time, but then when one is at one's best, it is always glaring.

The only available service to the public in Igbo Eze North presently is telecommunication services because those are private establishments.

The most painful thing in life is not about one's background but one allowing one's background to pull one to the ground. What we're saying in essence is that the genesis of our trouble is from the nucleus - leadership. Our leaders right from the onset, set the standard that we are and shall always remain the uncivilized Enugu Ezike/Etteh and there's nothing anybody can do about it and the people have swallowed it line, hook and sinker; always living in mediocre. We have allowed our background to pull us to the ground. Everything is wrong with the system in Igbo Eze North. CINY is not and cannot in any way condemn our fatherland, rather we only want the best for her.

This article shall therefore, be coming in bits (parts) in order for us to expunge the consequences of underdevelopment in this 21st century, perhaps our people, those who have the wherewithal to lift our fatherland out of the dungeon of backwardness will see the dangers of doing otherwise, probably not on them anyway but on our children and generations to come.

Stay tuned. Always keep a date with CINY pages on social media.

THE ACTIVITIES OF CONCERNED IGBO-EZE NORTH YOUTHS (CINY) AND THE NEED TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT.

Without entirely trying to join issues with those who have been criticising the activities of CINY, threatening to kill some of us in the past and now calling us "IGNORANT" just for their own selfish interest. We have not actually forgotten what happened on the 6th of January 2020 at Igbo-Eze North local government Lodge. One of the Igbo-Eze North politicians we are looking up to, threatened to have killed our leader if he had prior gotten the notice of our protest.

We were all threatend of death and now they have captiond us "IGNORANT PEOPLE" with some threatening words. It is now obvious that if anything happens to anyone of us, agitating for development in our land,
we don't need to ask where it is coming from having known the person/people who always threaten to kill us for agitating for development.

In an attempt to set the records straight and correct some wrong impressions once again, we may like to ask some pertinent questions to buttress out points:

Are we ignorant of the fact that prior to 2015, the good people of Igbo-eze North LGA of Enugu State gave His Excellency RT. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi our overwhelming mandate to represent us for 12 (twelve) uninterrupted years at the House of Representative and in 2015, we rejected one of our own and massively supported him to become Governor and repeated same in 2019.

So, as far as CINY is concerned, asking the Governor and the Local Government cm all the Political Office Holders in Igbo Eze North for infrastructural developmental projects and to make our homeland habitable for interstate commerce is not too much neither is it a crime that should warrant death threats from the same set of "leaders"

Having been Governor for the past 5 (five) years with the charge to further develop the entire Enugu State especially his Enugu North Senatorial zone since others have done same in their zones, it will not be out of place for us at CINY to keep reminding him of the essential things (projects) we need as a people.

*Are we also ignorant of the fact that since the time of our Local government campaign till now that some people have been unnecessarily clustering and pestering around the Local government Chairman scheming to be recognized for one post or the other and to be politically relevant and influence the Chairman for their selfish political interest and gain, not for the common good of the people of Igbo-eze North.
We also want to use this medium to tell our able Mayor to be very careful of those set of people who are always around him because it is the Mayor that we gave our mandate and not those attention seekers around him and if the Mayor fails to deliver on his promises to the people, history and posterity will remember and judge him personally for that and not anyone else.

Moreso, if the Mayor is to seek re-election or aspire for a higher post, he must make his score card known to the people of Igbo-eze North by giving them proper account of his stewardship_outlining what he has achieved in his first tenure because it is one good tenure that deserve another.

The Mayor should also be reminded that what CINY have been peacefully agitating for, is not different or far from what his Father (our Royal Father) His Royal Highness Igwe Simeon Osisi Itodo told the Governor at one of our visits to the government house Enugu_to the effect that the major things (projects) we need in Igbo-eze North are good road connectivity, renovation of our General hospital and the security of lives and Properties of our people because we live at the border, among other essential things of life which is obtainable in other areas.
May we mention that despite the Corona Virus pandemic, the Federal allocation for States and Local governmentd have been coming uninterrupted with some other kind of bail out; loans, palliatives and financial assistance from individuals and NGOs. We are aware that the State and Local government have not been in short of funds (because the State obtains loan) to develop the State to which Igbo-eze North is prominently part of.

It is true that the General hospital Ogrute is being renovated now (at a certain pace) but those who are calling us "IGNORANT" should be made to know that it is through persistent agitation and public outcry of CINY, that the attention of the State government was drawn to the bad condition of the hospital even after HRH Igwe Itodo made that request to the Governor on our behalf shortly after his re-election since last year (thanks toCovid-19).

It is also true that the Governor have been trying in compensating some people with some political positions (which is personal to them) because as far as CINY is concerned, that does not affect the lives of the greater people of Igbo-eze North in any positive way. What we have been clamouring and agitating for is something like projects (good roads, hospital etc) that will benefit and have direct positive impact on majority of our people and make life easier for them.

Moreover, it is high time we make it very clear to those political jobbers and power mongers in Igbo-eze North that anybody who does not have the collective interest of the people at heart should stay out of politics, it is not compulsory to be a politician and everybody must not be one because politics is not a career. Our people are wiser and more politically enlightened now and nobody or government can take us for a ride anymore. No matter the amount of threat or criticisms, we must continue to agitate for the common good of the people of Igbo-eze North even after this present government. The struggle for better and conducive Igbo-eze North is a continuous one, nobody can stop it by God's grace because we are fighting the right course. All we have been doing is simply driven by the passion to use our time and resources to draw government attention to the sorry state of infrastructures in our locality and consistently solicit for more improvement for the benefit of the greater masses of Igbo-eze North.

We have never and will never ask for a dime or political post from anybody because most of us by God's grace are doing well in our various business but all we want is that our roads should be made accessible so that we can drive home from time to time to see our aged parents and loved ones and that the people at home (villages) should not die carelessly as a result of lack of proper health care.

We believe this is not too much to ask for in our own government (a government we supported massively).
Conclusively.

Our attention has been drawn to a video being circulated over the social media where some people were attributing CINY to be IGNORANT and nuisance generators in Igbo Eze North polity, the video which is currently in our archive shall serve as an evidence if anything happens to any CINY members during the upcoming protest for a better Igbo Eze North

we must continue to engage the government (both State and Local) in constructive dialogue and criticisms when necessary. Even Igbo-eze North is in God's Mighty hands and heart!

May God bless Igbo-eze North!
May God bless Enugu State!!
May God bless Nigeria!!!
