I met a lady on Facebook who invited me to come and spend two weeks with her. I told her I didn’t have enough money for a hotel, only enough to cover my transport fare. She replied, “No problem, I live alone.”
So, I traveled all the way from Lagos to Maiduguri to see her.
I arrived around 5:30 p.m. She picked me up from the motor park and took me to her apartment. I changed my clothes, took a shower, put on my boxers, and relaxed on the couch, pretending to be busy on my phone while patiently waiting for the “next phase” of the visit.
A few minutes later, there was a knock at the door.
I heard someone whisper, “Babe, I couldn’t travel again. The bus left before I got to the park.”
The voice belonged to a lady.
She walked in and immediately started bringing her travel bags inside. At that moment, it dawned on me that the apartment wasn’t actually my host’s.
My supposed babe then turned to me and said, “I’m so sorry, but we have to leave.”
She explained that the apartment belonged to her friend, and that she normally stayed there because her own boyfriend had the keys to the place they lived together.
Without wasting any time, she took me back to the motor park that same evening, wished me a safe journey, and waved goodbye.
I quietly boarded a bus back to Lagos.
When I finally arrived the next day, I just sat there thinking about my life.
Imagine travelling all the way from Lagos to Maiduguri… just to have a bath.
I still can’t believe it.
😭😭😭😂😂😂🏃🏃🏃
