Consultants and Contractors: There is no need for an academic treatise herein. These roles are interrelated and intertwined. In short, they are connected.
Contractors can be consultants and Consultants can be contractors. It is dependent on a number of factors including scope, scale, duration, key components of the contract e.g. EPC, EPIC, EPCC, BOT, BOOT, concession etc.

However the thrust of this post is that you should get friendly with an engineer just the same way you are very friendly with a lawyer, banker and accountant.

We have a tendency to engage in high budget projects and take on the role of supervisor and financier of the projects the same time. Take up a consultant and think of it as a way of freeing up your time and buying valuable and quality service to monitor your projects.

It does not matter if it's corporate, individual, cooperative etc, let us help you realise value for your money.

I continue with above hash tag post and I clarify that these posts do not relate to building projects only. They are applicable to goods, services, materials, works etc related projects.

The limiters of time, cost, scope and quality always influence the quality of outcomes achievable and deliverable under a goods, services, materials, works etc related projects.

Get a professional who can help your projects deliver in conformance to the limiters.

A professional is not only degree qualified but licenced to practice. A licence to practice isbgicen based on achieving relevant experience after TV getting a degree.

Do we have a National (Nigerian) code of standards for:

- Buildings (private, public, commercial, residential, business, factory, high rise, skyscrapers, etc)
- Roads (Trunks A, B, C, D & E)
- Sewage systems
- Drainage systems

That are written by Nigerians and Nigerian professionals for Nigeria...???

Please anyone with relevant information, it is welcome.

And I'm not referring to BSI, ANSI, CE, DNV, JSI etc standards and specifications.

Good morning. I pointed out in an earlier post with same hash tag about requirements, regulations and standards in relation to projects.

For most residential buildings, say a bungalow or single floor building, most of us engage a bricklayer.

From my earlier post, I said something about time, cost, scope and quality. These are known 'constraints' or 'limiters' of project delivery.

Now, which one of these limiters does the bricklayer helps your bungalow project with?

Plus, can he get approvals signed off? Can he get your bungalow drawings reviewed? Without added cost?

Is he using metric or SI units of measurement? What advice do you get based on the kind of land you want to build on?

A project costs money and time to complete. Likewise there are requirements and regulations guiding every type of project.

One requirement and also a regulation is that you engaged qualified and licensed individuals on your projects.

Why is that? Simply because a project consumes money (cost), it will take a certain shape or form (design & scope), it must be completed in a certain time (time) and must fulfil some or applied standards (quality).
