PRESIDENT TINUBU ESTABLISHES TASK FORCE ON EBOLA; APPROVES N10B FOR EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a Presidential Task Force on Ebola Virus Disease Preparedness and Emerging Public Health Threats and ordered the immediate release of N10 billion as emergency intervention funding.

The fund will strengthen the operational preparedness of the National Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and support critical national public health emergency response activities.

The Presidential Task Force on Ebola will be chaired by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, with membership drawn from relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and State representatives.

Ebola has recently resurfaced in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda, both neighbouring countries.

The President’s approval followed a stakeholder meeting convened under the chairmanship of the Chief of Staff to review Nigeria’s preparedness and develop strategies against the possible importation of Ebola into Nigeria.

Other critical stakeholders at the meeting included representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Lagos State Government, and others.

President Tinubu also directed all States hosting international airports and international border corridors, as well as relevant MDAs, to submit their plans, funding requirements and intervention needs for consideration and coordinated implementation.

POLITICS OVER PROGRESS: THE BETRAYAL OF AFOWA SECONDARY SCHOOL 
In Edo North, education has been reduced from a fundamental right to a political prop. Politicians flaunt new classroom blocks as proof of achievement, while critical facilities such as administrative buildings, laboratories, ICT centers, perimeter fencing, and access roads are neglected. The crumbling state of Afowa Secondary School’s administrative block exposes this misplaced priority.
Rather than genuine investment, these projects are political spectacles designed for campaign posters. True commitment would involve renovating existing structures, providing modern tools, and ensuring a safe, supportive learning environment. Instead, cosmetic projects mask deep problems and betray the hopes of students, teachers, and communities.
The Questions We Must Ask
· What was actually allocated and received by our representatives for the provision of constituency projects?
· What was the true cost of these “constituency projects” constructed?
· What measures are in place to maintain these structures so they don’t fall into the same state of disrepair?
· Is it not better to maintain our current facilities than to build new ones just for show?
· What is the student enrollment at these schools?
· Are there even enough students to fill the new classrooms considering the numerous private institutions within?
OUR EXPECTATIONS
1.Maintenance of all the dilapidated structures within the school environment
2.Parameter fencing of Afowa Secondary school to curb encroachment
3.Constriction of access road to the school which also connect Afowa with Elele and Afashio communities.
4.Provision of ICT facilities for effective implementation of the new curriculum
5. Uninterrupted power supply
6. Provision of adequate and modern science laboratory equipments
7. Construction of access road from Afowa to Iyamho community
8. Youth empowerment (Not sharing of motorcycles, sewing machines,etc
