A colleague is presently on site for the construction project of a client. As it is customary in this part of the world, while starting the out the foundation, a religious cleric is invited to bless the land and pray for the successful completion of the project.

This was done.

The challenge now is that relatives of the client are also insisting that a sacrifice will also be conducted on site to appease the gods of the land. Client has approved, says it's just tradition.

Architect is confused. It is against his own personal and religious beliefs.

What should the architect do?

a. Stay and complete the project, after all, wetin concern am?

b. Be excused from the project because he doesn't subscribe to such practices?

Filling out my gratitude journal this morning, I took a moment to ponder on what to be grateful about Nigeria seeing today's her independence.

Then it hit me. Irrespective of how we perceive Nigeria to be at the moment we're still here and that is enough hope even though you may not agree with me.

That we still have an environment that we can go about our activities to fend for our daily bread without disturbance for the most part of it albeit our wonderful economy, is something to be grateful for.

It could have been worse.

Enough about Nigeria, let's talk about you.

We should be celebrating your freedom from procrastination, financial anxiety, indiscipline and laziness

We should be celebrating your independence from the fear of taking action on that idea that has been on your mind but you are still thinking of what people will say about you.

People that don't feed you.

Today should be your independence day from imposter syndrome that keeps you doubting how good you are while others that you are so much better than are carrying their market on their head, selling themselves so hard that you even buy from them.

If you are truly independent of from all these obstacles, then I celebrate you.

If you are not, I still celebrate you. One day, you will be free. When? Only you can tell.
