There comes a dangerous point when people stop correcting you.

Not necessarily because you've improved.

Sometimes they have simply learnt that you don't listen.

So they smile.

They agree.

They let you continue.

And you mistake the absence of resistance for evidence that you must be right.

Be careful when everybody around you suddenly becomes comfortable with everything you do.

Sometimes silence isn't approval. People have simply given up explaining.

WORLD 🌐 ARCHITECTURE DAY

One of the greatest challenges an architect faces is transforming a client’s vision, expectations, and budget into a functional reality.

Every project teaches us that good architecture is not only about beautiful drawings—it is about communication, trust, collaboration, flexibility, and attention to detail.

Clients should feel free to share their ideas, while architects must provide professional guidance that improves those ideas without losing the client’s original vision.

The challenge is not simply to design a building, but to create a solution that serves the client better than they initially imagined.

Here the journey all begins ✍️

HAPPY WORLD ARCHITECTURE DAY TO ALL ARCHITECTS AROUND THE WORLD 🌐

STOP LETTING SOCIAL MEDIA QUACKS PRICE YOUR BUILDING FOR YOU.

Nobody should tell you that you need 88 lengths of 16mm reinforcement, 10 lengths of another size, or any other random quantity for your building without first seeing the relevant design information.

How do you calculate reinforcement for a building you have never seen?

No architectural drawing.
No structural drawing.
No structural calculations.
No information about the foundation system.
No soil investigation or geotechnical information.
Sometimes, they don’t even know the location of the project.

Yet they come online and confidently tell you:

“You need 88 lengths of 16mm.”

How?

Are they using Oracle to see your building’s destiny?

Construction is not divination.

There are established procedures for this.

Get your architectural drawings.
Get the necessary geotechnical information where applicable.
Get your structural drawings and details.
Then let a competent Quantity Surveyor prepare the material quantities from the actual project information and drawings.

Because buildings are not the same.

Sizes are not the same.
Spans are not the same.
Loads are not the same.
Foundation conditions are not the same.
Structural systems are not the same.

So how can somebody sitting behind a phone give you a universal reinforcement quantity for a building they have never seen?

This is one of the dangers of social media.

People have turned themselves into content creators, and unfortunately, some people know that many members of the public are looking for cheap shortcuts. They exploit that desperation.

And let me tell you something:

People can pass through school, and school may not pass through them.

A certificate is not the end of professional competence.

What you need is knowledge, experience, professional judgment, proper documentation, and accountability.

I was told about a building that reportedly collapsed today. I do not want to speculate about the cause of that particular collapse without the facts and proper investigation.

But one thing remains true:

Do not hand over your building project to somebody simply because they sound confident on social media.

Your house is not a YouTube experiment.

Before you spend millions of naira on a building, spend the money to engage the right professionals.

Construction has guidelines.
Construction has standards.
Construction has procedures.

Follow them.

Don’t let anybody use your gullibility to build their own business while they gamble with your money.

Look at the reinforcement. Look at the concrete.

Even from what is visibly exposed, you can see obvious signs that this work was not properly executed. The concrete quality and reinforcement detailing raise serious workmanship concerns.

Sometimes, you don’t need to be told. A trained eye can see it.

Construction is not guesswork. Get the right professionals and do it properly.

I think I prefer the visible flat roof over the hidden roof.

Just my opinion based on what many people have said.

One common complaint about hidden roofs is that rainwater hits directly on the walls and gradually washes out the paint.

Some people also worry about leakages.

But that's just one side of the argument.

Which do you prefer: a visible flat roof or a hidden roof?

Tell us what you think in the comments section. 👇🏽👇🏽

Cheap construction can be very expensive

Every month, I hear about a project gone wrong, cracked foundations, collapsing walls, or half-finished sites abandoned by contractors. And in most cases, the story starts the same way: “We got a cheaper deal.”

In Nigeria’s construction space, price often takes priority over process. But here’s the truth: what you save today in materials or manpower, you’ll pay double tomorrow in repairs, delays, and reputation.

If you want to build right, these are three rules that never fail:

1. Verify Before You Hire.
Always check your contractor’s NIOB or COREN registration. A low bid from an unqualified team will cost you far more than their quote.

2. Don’t Cut Corners on Structure.
Whether it’s soil testing, proper foundation design, or steel quality, skipping steps here means gambling with safety.

3. Pay for Supervision, Not Just Construction.
Site engineers, quantity surveyors, and project managers exist for a reason. Their oversight prevents the small errors that become million-naira problems.

Building cheap isn’t the goal.
Building right is.

Because a well built structure pays for itself in peace of mind.

🏗️ THE WISE BUILT ON THE ROCK!

Every building tells a story—not only of money invested, but of decisions made, professionals trusted and safety measures put in place. A beautiful building means little if the right engineering principles were ignored during construction.

The recent building collapse in Napel a few days ago is another painful reminder of the message I shared before: when you think about the cost of construction, also think about the cost of safety.

Not every building constructed without proper professional supervision will collapse immediately. The real question is: what level of safety margin was provided?

Did you allow the engineer to design according to the required standards?
Did you allow the right foundation, reinforcement, concrete strength and structural detailing to be provided?
Did you allow proper supervision and quality workmanship?

Or were you constantly asking, “What is the minimum we can use?”

That is where danger begins.

Building is not simply about making a structure stand today. It is about ensuring that the structure can safely perform throughout its intended service life.

The foundation matters.
The soil investigation matters.
The structural design matters.
The quality of materials matters.
The workmanship matters.
The reinforcement matters.
Professional supervision matters.

Every wrong compromise can reduce the safety margin of the entire structure.

Don’t employ an engineer and then dictate how much reinforcement should be used. Don’t compromise a professional design because you want to save a little money. A small saving today can become a huge loss tomorrow.

If you are building, get the right professionals. Give them the freedom to do their work. Follow the approved design. Use specified materials. Maintain proper supervision.

Your building is not more valuable than the lives and property inside it.

Before you ask, “How much will it cost?” also ask, “How safe will it be?”

🧱 Build wisely. Build responsibly. Build for the future. Build on the Rock.

Remember: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

❤️ Your safety is paramount.

🌟 Happy New Week, my beloveds! May this new week bring us wisdom, protection, good health, progress, success and countless reasons to be grateful.

Stay safe. Build safe. Live safe.

WHY IS A DPC USED IN BUILDINGS?

A Damp Proof Course (DPC) prevents moisture from rising through walls by blocking capillary water movement from the ground. It helps keep walls dry and reduces dampness, mold, and damage.

For a sewage Facility like soakaway to be regarded as a functional facility it must have the characteristics of collecting your Solid 🪨 waste
break it down and discharge the by-product safely to the earth 🌍 soil.

This is what Your Old conventional soakaways don't do, they just collect waste and dump them there until the volume of the pit is filled up and it will demand you to evacuate it.This is the reason, some of your building 🏡 evacuate their waste after every few weeks, months, years etc.
Also your old soakaway harbour the habitation of many creeping creatures such as snake 🐍, lizard 🦎, cockroaches etc.

With the old soakaway it's almost impossible to get rid of offensive odour in your toilets, compounds spaces, sadly it's far expensive to construct and demands for subsequent evacuation expenses

These are the reasons you need to switch to biodigester sewage type.

Why do you Need a Biodigester soakaway type

1. Does not produce smell (NOT in any form)
2. Does not require frequent evacuation
3. Does not contaminate ground water
4. Require very small space for construction 🚧
5.Enemy to insects🪳 & creeping creatures of any type
6. Cheaper to install ( than the old disaster 😂)
7.Maintenance is optional after 25yrs
8. A waste management facility approved globally
9.Eco friendly
10. A single facility can serve at least 6 Toilets upwards.

Where can Biodigester be installed.
Residential buildings, schools, office complex, factories, shopping mall, etc any place where waste management is required.

SAY NO TO THE OLD SOAKAWAY TYPE, THE DON'T TREAT YOUR WASTE THEY'RE (DUMP PIT) TOXIC AND HARMFUL TO YOUR ENVIRONMENT.. ✍️

THINGS EVERY PAINTER SHOULD KNOW WHEN GIVING AN ESTIMATE

One of the biggest mistakes painters make is giving a price without properly assessing the job.
Before you tell a client, “This job will cost ₦500,000,” make sure you have considered these important factors:

🔹 1. Measure the actual area
Don’t guess. Calculate the walls, ceilings, exterior surfaces and other areas that need painting.
🔹 2. Check the condition of the surface
Is the wall new? Old? Cracked? Peeling? Damp? Dirty?
A wall that needs serious preparation will cost more than a wall that is already in good condition.
🔹 3. Include surface preparation
Scraping, sanding, filling cracks, POP repairs, screeding, priming and washing all require materials, labour and time.
🔹 4. Know your material cost 🪣
Calculate the quantity of paint, primer, screeding materials, fillers, sandpaper, masking tape, rollers, brushes and other consumables required.
🔹 5. Calculate labour properly
Don’t only think about the paint. Consider how many painters/helpers are needed and how many days the job will take.
🔹 6. Consider the height and accessibility
Painting a bungalow is different from painting a 3-storey or 15-storey building.
Scaffolding, ladders, safety equipment and difficult access can significantly affect the estimate.
🔹 7. Transportation & logistics
Fuel, transportation of workers, moving materials and transporting equipment to and from the site should not be ignored.
🔹 8. Don’t forget your profit 💰
An estimate is not just about recovering your expenses. You are running a business. Your profit should be clearly considered.
🔹 9. Put everything in writing
Your estimate should clearly state what is included and what is NOT included. This helps prevent arguments with clients later.
🔹 10. Never underprice just to get the job
Getting a job at a price that leaves you struggling to complete it is not a good deal.

A professional painter doesn't just give a price.
A professional painter gives an estimate based on measurements, materials, labour, preparation, logistics and experience.

👉 Paint smart. Price correctly. Protect your profit.
