Now again with all the floods in neighbouring SA, the old saying which we in the industry use so very often come under scrutiny. I said it long ago, the concept "100 year flood level" is something we should erase and forgot.
Rather replace it with this " Fluvial geomorphology. It will save life's, protect property.
This is very important and specific when it come to also development in coastal Towns. A area which look like a nice area for development might hide a dangerous sting in the tail. Was it perhaps once part of the ocean and where the area was blocked off and lay dry.
Where does all the rainwater go to or is this area once a while a flood plain for such off flows. In many cases it can be dry for many years and heavy rain at any coastal area is bound by its own season and some seasons can be as much as 10 to 12 years apart.
In nature there is always clues to assist in this study.
