Beneath the Yellow Canopy

Every market begins beneath a roof of trust.

Inspired by the humble yellow canopies that have long sheltered Malaysia's traditional wet markets, Payung Mart elevates this everyday icon into an architectural expression of care. Floating gently above the retail floor, layers of suspended canopies drift like protective skies—guiding movement, shaping space, and embracing every encounter beneath them.

They are more than ceiling features; they are quiet gestures of reassurance. They cast not coverage only, but a sense of belonging, transforming the act of shopping into a familiar ritual rooted in memory.

The luminous yellow echoes the optimism of a new day, the warmth of human connection, and the enduring spirit of neighbourhood markets. Framed by natural timber and flooded with daylight, the architecture breathes with openness, inviting the community to gather under a shared canopy where freshness, culture, and everyday life converge.

KIPMall Tampoi is a community revitalization project envisioned to redefine the role of the neighbourhood mall as more than a destination for commerce. Rooted in the belief that everyone deserves a better quality of living, the project transforms an everyday retail environment into a vibrant social heart where people gather, connect, and celebrate life together. Every intervention is carefully curated to uplift the daily experience of the local community, creating spaces that are welcoming, inclusive, and filled with optimism.

Rather than pursuing grandeur, the design embraces the beauty of everyday life. Familiar places are reimagined with renewed energy, introducing moments of delight, comfort, and discovery that encourage people to linger, interact, and create lasting memories. Public spaces become stages for community engagement, while thoughtful planning, vibrant placemaking, and human-centred design cultivate a stronger sense of belonging and ownership.

KIPMall Tampoi demonstrates how design can become an instrument of social progress. Beyond enhancing the physical environment, it elevates lifestyles, nurtures local identity, and strengthens community relationships. It is a place where architecture serves people first—where every family outing, every casual encounter, and every daily routine is enriched through meaningful design. The new 7-Eleven at the PERKESO Neuro-Robotic and Cybernetics Rehabilitation Centre was designed with a simple intention: to create a store that feels intuitive, welcoming, and comfortable for everyone - including the handicapped.

From seamless circulation and accessible counters to thoughtfully planned seating and product displays, every design decision supports the way people naturally move, interact, and experience the space.

When we design with empathy, accessibility becomes effortless, functionality becomes beautiful, and every visit feels just a little more human.

Because great design isn't about adding features.

Not just a convenience store, but a place where everyone belongs.

At the PERKESO Neuro-Robotic and Cybernetics Rehabilitation Centre, we reimagined the everyday 7-Eleven experience through the lens of inclusive design, specially designed to fit the Disabled community.

Inspired by the centre's futuristic architecture, the store extends its spatial language into an environment where accessibility is seamlessly integrated into the design. Every element—from fluid circulation and wheelchair turning nodes to lowered counters, barrier-free seating, and independently accessible food preparation areas—is thoughtfully crafted to empower every visitor with comfort, confidence, and dignity.

We designed for people in mind. Accessibility is not treated as an add-on, but as the foundation of the experience.

Because great design is measured not only by how beautiful a space looks, but by how many lives it welcomes.
