Hock Seng Lee's origins date back to the mid-1960s, when it started out as what was principally a sand dredging and landfill operation. The company's first purchase to launch this partnership was a timber dredging vessel, named Hock Seng Lee, or "good business" in the local Hokkien dialect. Hock Seng Lee Berhad (HSL), the flagship company, grew rapidly and was incorporated in January 1979. Since t
hen, it has gone on to diversify and expand into marine engineering, civil engineering and construction works. On 10 June 1996, HSL was listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia (stock code 6238). HSL is headquartered in Kuching, Sarawak and its operations extend throughout the state, with projects encompassing a wide range of civil engineering and construction works as well as complex infrastructure projects.
