13th May 2026

Pam Sarawak Chapter PAMSC recently paid a courtesy visit to YB Datuk Amar Prof. Dr Sim Kui Hian, Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, in conjunction with the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly 2026 at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Building.

The visit served as the official introduction of PAMSC’s newly elected Office Bearers and Committee Members for the 2026–2027 term, while reaffirming the Chapter’s commitment towards continuous engagement and collaboration with the Ministry in advancing Sarawak’s built environment sector.

Among the key matters discussed were the Sarawak Building Ordinance (SBO), the establishment of the Sarawak Building Board (SBB), and the important role of architects in shaping resilient, sustainable, and future-ready communities. PAMSC also expressed its appreciation to the Ministry for the opportunity extended to the Chapter in providing professional input and participating in discussions relating to the development and implementation of the SBB.

The meeting provided a valuable platform for constructive dialogue on Sarawak’s aspirations towards a safer, more efficient, sustainable, and progressive built environment ecosystem. Members were also honoured with the opportunity to appreciate the architectural significance and institutional heritage embodied within one of Sarawak’s most iconic civic landmarks.

Due to time constraints, PAMSC expressed its interest in arranging a follow-up courtesy visit with YB Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian for a more in-depth discussion on how the Chapter may continue contributing towards the establishment and implementation of the SBB, which Datuk Amar welcomed and agreed to.

Representing PAMSC during the visit were the Office Bearers and Committee Members for the 2026–2027 term:

4th April 2026 - Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia Sarawak Chapter (Pam Sarawak Chapter) 51st Annual General Meeting

Last year, when I was informed that I would need to step up to take on the role of Chairman this year, I was in a dilemma as to whether I was truly ready for the responsibility. It was never an easy decision to accept the nomination as Chairman of PAMSC for the 2026–2027 term. Serving in PAMSC is a voluntary commitment, and it often requires balancing professional responsibilities while sacrificing personal and family time to serve the profession. However, I strongly feel that this is a responsibility I am meant to undertake, for the betterment of the architectural industry and the built environment.

Nevertheless, I am honoured and grateful for the trust placed in me. I look forward to working closely with the current committee members and learning from our past PAMSC leaders — many of whom have dedicated over 30 years of service to the chapter. Their commitment continues to inspire us.

This appointment is especially meaningful to me, as I am the third architect from PDC Design Group to serve as PAMSC Chairman — and, if I’m not mistaken, the only architectural firm to have produced three PAMSC Chairmen (Ar. Simon Woon Ta Meng - Term 1996-1999 and Ar. Chai Si Yong - Term 2021-2023).

I will do my best to serve with dedication, humility, and purpose.

Remembering Dr. Jonathan Chin (1995–2026)

It still feels unreal receiving the news of your passing. I got a call from one of our BNI Pioneer RPs, Constance Leong, at 12:07pm yesterday asking if I had heard. Deep down, I knew it would be bad news — but I never imagined it would be about you, and that it came from such a tragic accident.

You were a gentle, caring, and responsible doctor. The only GP I know who would personally message and follow up after a visit, making sure your patients were truly well. That small gesture spoke volumes about the kind of person you were.

Too young, too soon. The community has truly lost a remarkable doctor and a kind soul.

Rest in peace, Dr. Jonathan Chin. 🙏

He was more than a referral partner—he was a connector, a giver, a pillar of our community 🥹

The value he created, the trust he built, and the lives he impacted…these will never fade.

Some people pass through chapters, and he became part of our story forever 🧖🏻‍♂️

A great loss, deeply felt. Our deepest condolences to your family and loved ones, Dr Jonathan 🤍
