1️⃣ The Field Was Once a Cricket Ground

The field where the flagpole stands was once known as Royal Selangor Club Padang during the colonial era, where the British played cricket and held parades.

From a colonial-era sporting ground to a stage for national independence — this very field has witnessed a remarkable chapter of history.

2️⃣ Where Independence Began 🇲🇾

At midnight on 30 August 1957, the Union Jack was lowered for the final time, followed by the raising of the Malayan flag.

This historic moment marked the beginning of a new chapter for the nation.

3️⃣ A 100-Metre Flagpole 🏅

Standing at 100 metres tall, the flagpole at the southern end of the square once held the Guinness World Record for the world’s tallest flagpole.
