Almaz Architect Sdn Bhd (AASB) was incorporated on 12 July 2010, it evolved from the original Sole Proprietor firm of Almaz Architect formed in 1994 with Ar. Almaz Salma Binti Abdul Rahim as the Managing Director and Ar. HirAzni Bin Md Tahir as the Executive Director. AASB is supported by a strong workforce of 20 employees consisting of 1-Associate, 4-Architects, 2-Technical Assistants, 1- Assistant Architect, 4-Draughtsmen, 1-Liaison Officer, 6-Administrative Staff, and 1-Driver cm Dispatch. The firm provides a comprehensive and wide range of architectural services, some of which include the development of mass & individual housing, institutional & public buildings, commercial, hotels, wellness, religious and industrial projects. The emphasis of our design process is on individual requirements and more importantly, the client’s needs, current construction technology and environmental concerns.

Designing with Local Identity

On 23 May 2026, our Founder, Ar Almaz Rahim, was invited by Ar Hazwan Hamidi, PAM Chair of the East Coast Chapter, to speak at KLAF 2026 on the topic “Application of Vernacular & Local Architecture in Current Context in Malaysia.”

A subject close to her heart, the session explored how the principles of traditional Malaysian architecture can continue to shape modern living today. From spatial planning to elements such as the Jendela, traditional design offers valuable lessons in comfort, privacy and family-friendly living.

It was also a great honour for her to share the stage with renowned architect Dato Ar Raja Dato Kamarul Bahrin.

A meaningful session celebrating how local identity and architectural heritage can remain relevant in contemporary design.

Appreciating the People Behind the Project

Our Founder Ar Almaz Rahim recently visited SMK Bohor Jaya together with the Landscape Architect LAr Olin Wahid, as the school project moves through the process of obtaining its Certificate of Completion & Compliance (CCC).

After 47 months of construction, it was a meaningful opportunity to recognise the site team who have contributed their time, effort and commitment throughout the journey.

To show her appreciation, our Founder treated the site team to a steamboat dinner at Ombak Villa, Langkawi — a simple gesture of thanks to the people on site to bring the project to completion.

A well-deserved evening of appreciation for a team that has been part of this journey from the ground up.

A home should continue to support its occupants as family dynamics evolve. At The Nine Elmina Green, four ensuite bedrooms, an accessible ground-floor Garden Suite, and open communal spaces provide flexibility for multi-generational living while balancing privacy with everyday interaction.

The projecting bay window in the Master Bedroom extends the usable living space, creating a corner that can become a reading nook, study area, or quiet retreat according to changing needs. Architecture is most effective when form and performance work together. At The Nine Elmina Green, brick cladding, deep roof overhangs, vent blocks, and full-height windows shape an architectural language that responds to Malaysia's tropical climate while giving the homes a distinct residential identity. Full-height windows frame outward views and reinforce a sense of spatial openness, while the material palette introduces depth, texture, and permanence to the façade.

Inside, the open-plan living, dining, and kitchen spaces promote visual continuity and natural airflow. Overhead louvred windows above the staircase create a stack effect, allowing warm air to escape while drawing daylight deeper into the home.

Every residential development begins with a clear understanding of its context. At The Nine Elmina Green, the masterplan responds to site orientation, climate, and the surrounding neighbourhood to create a comfortable and resilient living environment.

Comprising 192 double-storey linked homes on 20' × 80' lots with built-up areas from 2,000 sq. ft., the homes are arranged along a North–South orientation to reduce solar heat gain while optimising natural daylight and cross-ventilation.

Planning extends beyond the homes themselves. More than 10% of the site is dedicated to landscaped open spaces, connected by pedestrian and cycling routes that encourage walkability, recreation, and a stronger relationship between the built environment and nature.

We believe that a well-designed gallery is more than the quality of the exhibition space itself - it is also about the journey.

For Siera Alam Sales Gallery, the journey begins with the drop-off, and main lobby as the central arrival point. From there, the spaces are distributed into key zones such as the sales gallery, office wing, ancillary spaces, kiosks, show village, clubhouse, and outdoor event areas.

This spatial arrangement encourages visitors to move naturally from one area to another, creating a smooth flow while allowing different functions to stay connected. Instead of a rigid layout, the design promotes exploration, interaction, and a more engaging visitor experience.

The project also responds strongly to its surrounding views. The lake, future mosque, greenery, and open landscape are carefully framed through building placement and circulation. These views and vistas help create moments of calm, openness, and visual connection throughout the site.

Together, the circulation and views transform the sales gallery into more than a destination for property viewing — it becomes a place where architecture, landscape, and community experience meet.

Biophilic design is more than adding plants into a space — it is about creating a stronger connection between people, architecture, and nature. 🌿✨

For Siera Alam Sales Gallery, the design connects visitors with nature through views towards the surrounding landscape, while greenery is integrated within and between the building envelope to soften the built environment.

Natural light also plays a key role in shaping the gallery’s ambience and visual experience. Large openings allow generous daylight into the space, creating a brighter and more open interior.

At the same time, the design carefully responds to Malaysia’s tropical climate. Harsh sunlight is screened by large overhangs, greenery, and shading devices, allowing daylight to be filtered in a more comfortable way.

The west-facing façade further introduces vertical fins that provide shade while creating a playful interplay of light and shadow across the building.

Instead of separating indoor and outdoor spaces, the design allows both to work together — creating an environment that feels warm, welcoming, and connected to its surroundings.

At Siera Alam Sales Gallery, the western-facing façade is designed with vertical fins that mimic the gentle ripples of the nearby lake. Beyond creating rhythm, movement, and depth across the building surface, these fins also function as shading devices, helping to soften direct sunlight while introducing an elegant interplay of light and shadow throughout the day.

The design visually connects the man-made architecture with the natural landscape around it, creating a façade that is not only expressive but also responsive to its environment.

The building also responds to the site’s natural level difference, allowing parts of the structure to be elevated. This strengthens the sense of arrival, improves visibility, and gives the sales gallery a stronger architectural presence within the landscape.
Instead of treating the façade as only a visual feature, the design uses it as a bridge between nature, function, form, and experience.
