Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater
The Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater, located on the shores of Long Island Sound in Bridgeport, has been awarded the prestigious VenuesNow All-Star Award for Renovation and is recognized as the Best Concert Venue in Connecticut. It is the premier live music entertainment destination for the entire region.
The roof’s original design was the responsibility of the prestigious New York City-based firm FTL STUDIO, which specializes in lightweight architecture.
The task was to develop the engineering for the metallic cover’s structure.
The project presented three main challenges:
1. The structure lacks intermediate columns: Support is provided by a large central mast, and six secondary masts arranged radially around the main mast, suspended from the structure using a cable system that required meticulous structural analysis.
2. The metallic structure had to be fabricated and pre-assembled in a workshop to eliminate on-site welding.
3. The fabrication took place in Mexico and had to be transported to Connecticut by land, requiring meticulous planning of the structural modules solved through connections for efficient transportation to the United States.
Undoubtedly, this project represented a significant structural engineering, planning, and logistics challenge.
