Introducing organic farming and its magnitude in Maldives
As food is not an option, we can’t live without food. To be a healthy and energetic populace, we should eat safe and healthy food. Therefore, food safety is an increasingly important public health issue and it starts from farm to fork. It should be safe from chemical contamination, physical contamination and biological contamination. Today
we all believe many of our agricultural lands are heavily contaminated with numerous agro chemicals. Some of these chemicals are toxic and lethal. Due to unlimited applications of various liquid chemicals and unsterilized cow dung on farms cause a lot of dangerous diseases to humans when they eat its products. These diseases include cancer, diarrhea, stomachache, headache and other hazardous impacts on infants and pregnant women. Hence, MALDIVES FARMERS AND AGRICULTURE ASSOCIATION and Health Ministry of Maldives are intensifying their efforts to improve food safety. These efforts are in response to an increasing number of food safety problems and rising consumer concerns in Maldives.
