Balao Lodge

A carefully composed architectural section reveals a 1-bedroom coastal retreat shaped by passive design principles and vernacular Mauritian architecture. The cut reveals how natural cross-ventilation moves through the interior, while diffused daylighting enters via deep overhangs and shaded openings. The materials expressed in the layered wall assemblies, timber roof structure, and verandah framing—highlight the project’s low-impact approach.

Balao Lodge
A thoughtfully crafted 1-bedroom coastal retreat blending passive design principles with vernacular architecture. Natural cross-ventilation, diffused daylighting, and locally sourced materials create a thermally comfortable, low-impact space. The open-plan layout flows onto a traditional Mauritian verandah, framing uninterrupted ocean vistas in a warm, intimate setting.
