Since women began entering the professional workforce after the Industrial Revolution, many fields have remained male-dominated — and commercial diving is no exception.
A 2017 study from the Norwegian Diver Registry revealed that only 6.6% of professional divers were women, while global estimates sit at just 4%. Even in broader marine-related sectors, women are still underrepresented: according to the Surf Industry Members Association, only 35% of their members were women as of 2024. In Mauritius, WOMESA (Association of Women Managers in the Maritime Sector in Eastern and Southern Africa) continues to advocate strongly for gender inclusion, as the maritime sector remains largely male-led.
At Immersub, we believe in actively shaping a more inclusive industry. We stand by Melinda Gates’ words: “When we invest in women and girls, we are investing in the people who invest in everyone else.”
We are proud to have sponsored Nellie Le Juge, the first Mauritian female surfer to compete at the 2023 African Surfing Games. Today, 70% of our office team are women, including our Operations Coordinator — a testament to our commitment to gender diversity.
Aligned with UN SDG 5: Gender Equality, which aims to empower all women and girls, we warmly welcome female applicants for our current openings: Sales Coordinator and Maintenance Technician.
And to any female commercial divers interested in joining our team — we would be thrilled to hear from you!
