We have just collected a number of these birds as part of our pest management works, and they are now looking for a caring and responsible home. These birds deserve a safe, stable environment where they can thrive and be properly looked after.
Any kind soul willing to adopt them is warmly encouraged to reach out. However, it is imperative that they are placed in a secure and suitable home, and must not end up back in the wild. Their wellbeing and long-term safety are our priority.

Approximately 90% of rodent infestations recorded are attributable to the brown rat (Rattus norvegicus). The detection of the black rat (Rattus rattus) within premises is relatively uncommon. This species is primarily associated with agricultural environments and exhibits a patchy distribution, occurring in specific localized zones of the Maltese Islands rather than being widespread. Although less frequently encountered, R. rattus remains a significant pest species, comparable in impact to R. norvegicus. Continued monitoring is underway to refine our understanding of the distribution and habitat preferences of R. rattus within the archipelago. The local expansion of termites is becoming phenomenal and increasingly puzzling.
We have now recorded our 15th case involving a boat, adding another interesting dimension to the apparent spread of termites across the Maltese Islands.
Even more intriguing, we believe that we may currently be studying a termite species not previously recorded from the Maltese Islands. Investigations are ongoing, and we hope to share more information as our research progresses.

ALSO N.B: We are currently assisting genetic researchers by collecting specific colour variants of feral and domestic pigeons for ongoing research, particularly ash-coloured variants, including Red Bar pigeons.

🐝 PAPER WASP OR GERMAN WASP? KNOW THE DIFFERENCE!
At this time of year, we are regularly encountering both the Common Large Paper Wasp (Polistes sp.) and the German Wasp (Vespula germanica). They may look similar at first glance, but there are some easy ways to tell them apart.
The Paper Wasp is slender body, narrow waist and long legs that often dangle during flight. Their nests are typically open, umbrella-shaped combs with the cells clearly visible.On the other gand German Wasp had shorter, stockier and more robust, with strong black-and-yellow markings and shorter legs. Their nests are enclosed and often concealed underground, inside wall cavities or other protected spaces. Colonies can become large and highly defensive when disturbed.
👉 Quick identification:
Long dangling legs + slender body + open nest = Paper Wasp
Stocky body + shorter legs + enclosed/hidden nest = German Wasp
⚠️ Treatment is also different. German wasp nests are best approached at night, similar to hornet nests, when colony activity is reduced, and require particular caution and appropriate protective equipment. Paper wasp nests may be dealt with during daylight hours by trained professionals, depending on the situation.
Most importantly: correct identification comes before treatment. Never disturb an active wasp nest if you are unsure what you are dealing with.
