Actually, tomatoes can be quite divisive: are they fruits or vegetables, is it tom-A-to or tom-AH-to, was ketchup invented for french fries?

To build bridges, Katalyst recently brought together community members to celebrate the diversity of tomatoes, with taste testings of juices, sauces and pastes. Everything available on the local market was reviewed, both locally made and imported.

Did you know the taste, texture and aroma of tomato products are evaluated across 30+ dimensions?

And this year our partner DOR Sucuri Naturale started making tomato juice, with a plan to offer a sauce next year, and maybe a vegetable juice.

Construction School gives Ukrainian women the chance to discover what their hands can do with a little theory and plenty of practice. Katalyst works with those seeking greater independence, a new way to earn an income and the chance to get ready to rebuild Ukraine.

When simple, local, hard-working ingredients like beans, carrots, beets and onions are given a little extra respect, something pretty decent can happen.

These are not burgers. These are juicy, savoury and nourishing food opportunities that make adults and children in our workshops salivate before they reach the plate.

There are thousands of bomb shelters around Ukraine. Some were built after WW2, many were improvised since the conflict intensified in 2022.

In big cities, people run to them multiple times every day. They are basic, because nobody expected we would still be here four years later.

But what if all it took was a bucket of paint, a string of lights and a colorful poster to lighten up the most stressful hour of someone’s day.

Every summer, Katalyst organizes cooking camps for the next generation of "iron chefs", to develop confidence through basic kitchen skills, to get them off screens for a few hours while socializing with real people, and to fill their tummies with laughs and vitamins.

During school breaks, Katalyst organizes cooking workshops for teachers, to experiment with new ingredients, or adapt old recipes to be a little healthier.

In addition to cooking classes for kids, parents and cafeteria staff, we also organize field trips to farms and factories.

In this case, they got to see how a local cereal company makes their favorite crunchy little stars.
