When someone has already formed a negative or biased opinion about you, you may not be able to convince them otherwise.

And that is okay.

You do not have to spend your life explaining yourself to people who have already decided what they want to believe. Let your character, consistency, actions, and results speak for you.

Some people will misunderstand you. Some will judge you unfairly. Others may never see the person you truly are.

Your responsibility is not to convince everyone.

Your responsibility is to remain true to your values, keep doing what is right, and let time reveal the truth.

Not every opinion deserves a response. Sometimes your consistency is the response.

WHO DECIDED WHAT A LIBERIAN JOB IS WORTH?

This is a question Liberia's HR professionals, employers and policymakers need to seriously discuss.

One of the biggest challenges we face as HR professionals is the lack of reliable local compensation data. Too often, companies build salary structures around what competitors pay, what they have historically paid, or a percentage above the DWA minimum wage. Others rely on international salary databases that were developed for completely different labour markets.

But is the DWA minimum wage really a benchmark for the value of a job?

A minimum wage is a legal floor. It tells us the minimum that can legally be paid. It does not tell us what an HR Manager, Engineer, Accountant, Supervisor, Director or CEO is actually worth.

Liberia has changed. Our economy has changed. Businesses have changed. Technology has changed. Jobs have changed. The skills and responsibilities required today are not necessarily the same as they were years ago.

Yet our job classifications and compensation thinking have not always evolved with them.

So where is Liberia's own compensation data?

I believe the HR profession should lead a serious conversation about creating a Liberia Compensation Survey and Job Evaluation Framework.

We should be able to evaluate jobs based on responsibility, qualifications, complexity, accountability, decision-making, people management, risk, scarcity of skills and organizational impact, and then compare properly matched jobs across the Liberian market.

Imagine being able to tell an employer:

"This position sits at the 50th percentile of the Liberian market."

Or:

"Because this is a scarce and critical position, the organization should target the 75th percentile."

That is much better than simply saying, "Company X pays this, so we should pay the same."

And this should not only concern the private sector. Government ministries, agencies and SOEs also need modern job evaluation and classification systems. Jobs have evolved, and their relative worth should be reviewed.

We cannot continue making compensation decisions based primarily on what we inherited, what another company pays, or how far above the minimum wage we are prepared to go.

Perhaps it is time for Liberia's HR profession to stop asking only:

"What does the market pay?"

and start asking:

"How do we build the market data?"

Should Liberia have its own National Compensation Survey and Job Value Index?

I would like to hear from HR professionals, CEOs, business owners, policymakers and employees.

Do you agree? Why or why not?

TO ALL EMPLOYERS: A MAJOR AMENDMENT TO THE DECENT WORK ACT 2025 COULD AFFECT YOUR RETIREMENT BENEFIT LIABILITY AND HR BUDGET

Liberia has introduced a significant amendment to Chapter 22, Social Security, of the Decent Work Act of 2015, titled:

“An Act to Amend Chapter 22 Social Security of the Decent Work Act of 2015 to Mandate a Lump Sum Retirement Benefit from Employers in Addition to Social Security Pension.”

The amendment, passed by the Liberian Senate in July 2026, introduces an important new dimension to retirement benefits in Liberia.

Under the existing framework, employees participate in the statutory National Pension Scheme administered by NASSCORP, with contributions made by both employers and employees.

The proposed amendment goes further by introducing an additional employer funded lump sum retirement benefit, separate from the statutory NASSCORP pension.

For employers, this raises questions that go far beyond payroll.

What happens to employees who have already served 10, 15, 20 or 25 years?

Does previous service count toward the new entitlement?

How will existing gratuity, provident fund or private pension arrangements be treated?

Can an employer that has complied with NASSCORP obligations assume there is no additional retirement liability?

What happens to existing employment contracts and collective bargaining agreements?

And perhaps the most important question for CEOs, CFOs and HR Directors:

What potential retirement benefit liability is already sitting on your workforce?

This is not simply a payroll issue.

It potentially touches employment contracts, compensation structures, employee records, HRIS configuration, retirement planning, collective bargaining, financial forecasting and employer liability.

Employers should therefore begin reviewing employee service dates, historical earnings, existing retirement arrangements and contractual commitments.

The law may have changed. The critical question is whether your HR policies, contracts, systems and financial models have changed with it.

A deeper HR and employment law analysis of the amendment, including its transitional implications, potential employer liability and practical steps companies should take, is coming.

*THE DAY ALHRP FOUND A HOME — AN OFFICE SPACE*

*Dear ALHRP Family* ,

There are moments in the life of an institution when we must pause—not because the journey is over, but because we realize that we have crossed a line that once seemed almost impossible to cross. September 2026 is one of those defining moments in the history of the Association of Liberia HR Professionals (ALHRP).

Since our establishment in 2013, ALHRP has carried a bold and enduring vision: to professionalize HR in Liberia, give HR professionals a stronger voice, influence workplace practices and policy, develop the next generation of HR leaders, and position Human Resources as a strategic pillar of Liberia’s national development. But behind that greater vision was another dream—a simple but profound one: to have a home of our own.

For years, we had the vision. We had the determination. We had the passion. What we did not always have were the financial resources to make that dream a reality. Yet, when resources were limited, the generosity and commitment of others carried us forward.

For nearly six years, Mrs. Brenda Brewer Moore and the KEEP family opened their doors to ALHRP and provided the Association with a home across Lynth Street, ELWA, and Duport Road. They did not simply provide physical space; they became stewards of an institution that was still finding its feet, building its identity, and fighting to establish itself within Liberia’s professional landscape.

When that chapter ended, Gurus HR Consultancy Group stepped forward and continued to provide ALHRP with office space at virtually no cost. They gave us more than four walls. They gave an institution time to breathe, organize, conserve resources, grow, and prepare for independence.

Today, that chapter comes to an end. And a new chapter begins.

*ALHRP HAS A HOME.*

Less than one year after the Convention entrusted the current leadership with the mandate to secure an office, the mandate has become a reality. An office has been secured and paid for 18 months, with six months of electricity, water, security, and access to a shared conference room.

This is not merely a change of address. It is institutional consolidation. It is a manifestation of vision translated into ex*****on. It is a symbol of progress.

*And today, we must say THANK YOU.*

Thank you, *Mrs. Brenda Brewer Moore and the KEEP Family,* for carrying ALHRP when the Association needed a home. Thank you, Jonah Soe Kotee and Gurus HR Consultancy Group, for providing ALHRP the breathing space that allowed the Association to strengthen and prepare for this moment. Thank you to the ALHRP Board for your support, oversight, and commitment to ensuring that a Convention mandate did not remain merely a resolution on paper.

And to our members—those who supported us, those who questioned us, those who challenged us, those who demanded accountability, and those who refused to allow leadership to become complacent—we say THANK YOU. You kept our feet to the fire. You demanded results. And today, we can show you the result.

*To Mrs. Rennie and the 2026 Convention Team* , thank you for pushing relentlessly, *mobilizing resources* , and refusing to allow this dream to remain an aspiration. Your persistence helped move this vision from conversation to reality.

To our sponsors, partners, friends, and supporters, thank you for believing in ALHRP, believing in our leadership, and believing in the growth and development of HR professionals in Liberia. You did not simply support an office; you supported a profession.

Yes, we may disagree. We may debate. We may challenge one another. We may see leadership differently. But there is one thing we must never disagree on: the growth and advancement of the HR profession in Liberia.

That mission is bigger than any individual. Bigger than any Board. Bigger than any administration. It is our collective responsibility. It is our collective legacy.

As ALHRP moves into its new office in Congo Town, let us not see this as the end of a struggle. Let us see it as the beginning of a new era.

Our eyes are already fixed on the next mountain: LAND.

*A parcel of land* . A permanent ALHRP headquarters. A professional home built by HR professionals, for HR professionals—a place where future generations will walk through the doors and know that their predecessors dreamed boldly enough to build.

One day, we will look back at this office and say: “This is where the dream became a reality.”

From borrowed spaces, to hosted spaces, to an independent office—and one day, to our permanent headquarters.

*THE JOURNEY CONTINUES.*

ALHRP is not just moving office. ALHRP IS MOVING FORWARD. ALHRP IS BUILDING. ALHRP IS EVOLVING. ALHRP IS INSTITUTIONALIZING. ALHRP IS PROFESSIONALIZING. AND ALHRP IS LEAVING A LEGACY.

To every ALHRP member: this is your home. Walk through those doors with pride. Walk through them knowing that your membership, your voice, your contribution, and your commitment are helping build something much bigger than any one person.

The history of HR in Liberia is being written—and your name is part of the story.

May the generations that come after us inherit an institution stronger, greater, more credible, more influential, and more consequential than the one we inherited.

*THIS IS OUR MOMENT.*
*THIS IS OUR MILESTONE.*
*THIS IS OUR LEGACY.*

The dream is alive. The institution is rising. And the best of ALHRP is still ahead.

*Long live ALHRP.*
*Long live the HR profession in Liberia.*
