Every client has a unique vision, and our role is to transform that vision into architecture.
For this residence in Chilaw, our client requested something truly distinctive a home with a timeless rustic character, warm natural materials, and an identity unlike anything commonly seen. Every design decision was carefully shaped around that vision.

Despite the constraints of a relatively narrow urban site, we embraced the challenge by creating a home that feels remarkably open, private, and connected to nature.

The property is enclosed with blind boundary walls on both sides, allowing us to introduce an indoor courtyard seamlessly integrated with the boundary wall itself. This central courtyard becomes the heart of the home, bringing daylight, greenery, and fresh air deep into the living spaces while maintaining complete privacy.

The open-plan layout has been carefully designed to promote seamless connectivity between spaces, while strategically positioned openings create excellent cross ventilation, ensuring a naturally bright, airy, and comfortable living environment throughout the day.

The exposed brick façade, bold roof forms, generous glazing, and earthy material palette work together to create a residence that feels authentic, warm, and enduring a home designed not only to stand out visually, but to become more beautiful with time.

Positioned within the quiet landscape of a mature coconut estate, this contemporary tropical residence is conceived as an immersive living environment where architecture becomes an extension of nature. Rather than imposing upon its surroundings, the home responds sensitively to the existing landscape, creating a calm and understated architectural presence.

The spatial composition is organized around a generous internal courtyard that forms the heart of the residence. Open to the sky, this central void introduces natural light, cross ventilation, and greenery deep into the interior while visually connecting every major living space. A sculptural staircase rises through the courtyard, transforming circulation into a defining architectural experience and establishing a strong dialogue between both levels.

The master suite is carefully oriented toward a private swimming pool, allowing uninterrupted views across the water and surrounding tropical landscape. Large glazed openings dissolve the threshold between inside and outside, creating a tranquil, resort-inspired atmosphere where nature becomes an integral part of everyday living.

Designed to accommodate contemporary family life, the upper floor houses two additional bedrooms alongside a TV lounge, mini bar, linen room, and expansive open balcony overlooking the surrounding greenery. On the ground floor, interconnected living, dining, and kitchen spaces extend effortlessly toward the open verandah and car porch, encouraging a seamless indoor–outdoor lifestyle suited to the tropical climate.

A restrained palette of exposed concrete, natural timber textures, warm stone finishes, and expansive glazing reinforces the home's timeless character. Every opening is carefully framed to capture natural light, encourage passive ventilation, and celebrate the ever-changing beauty of the coconut estate.

More than a residence, the project is envisioned as a contemporary tropical sanctuary , where architecture, landscape, and climate exist in harmony to create a home defined by simplicity, warmth, and enduring elegance.
