The name “Sapsido” comes from the island’s shape in that it resembles a bow and arrow (“sap” means “to stick in” and “si” means “an arrow”). In the sea surrounding the island stand many oddly shaped rocks, which create a great view. Aside from its superb natural landscape, Sapsido Island is also well know for a mineral spring site called Mulmangteo and the neighboring Myeonsapji Islet, which is co

nnected with Sapsido Island at low tide by a sand and pebble path. The mineral spring site Mulmangteo is submerged during high tide and appears during low tide when fresh water wells up between the rocks and sand. Sapsido Island is also a favored year-round fishing site that is rich in marine resources.
삽시도는 섬의 지형이 화살이 꽂힌 활(弓)의 모양과 같다해서 붙여진 이름이다.
해안선을 따라 환상적인 기암괴석의 수려한 풍경과 울창한 송림으로 둘러쌓인 충남에서 세 번째 큰섬이다 대천항에서 하루에 세 번 운행되는 여객선으로 약 1시간 거리에 있다. 섬의 면적은 3.8㎢의 비교적 큰 섬으로 200여 가구에 500여명의 주민이 대부분 어업에 종사하고 있으나 농경지도 많아 농어업의 소득이 고루 높고 주변의 산림이 울창하다.삽시도 사진 또한 삽시도에는 태고의 신비를 간직한 물망터와 면삽지를 비롯하여 양질의 백사장과 청정해역을 자랑하는 거멀너머 해수욕장, 진너머 해수욕장, 그리고 삽시도 남쪽 끝머리에 위치한 밤섬 해수욕장이 있어 많은 피서객들의 발길이 끊이지 않는 곳이다.
