In adherence to Giryama traditions, the eldest son is traditionally expected to erect his house adjacent to his progenitors' residence, signifying his transition into adulthood. Embracing this custom, I envisioned a modest sleeping chamber beside my father's dwelling, given our limited plot-size. However, the chosen site for this project coincides with my departed mother's resting place. In keeping with Islamic practices, her burial site remains unsealed, presently blossoming as a garden. This sanctuary, therefore, became an integral element of my architectural plan, offering serene vistas from both the bedroom and the car port. My aspiration is to honor her memory in proximity, with a design that draws inspiration from the rich heritage of Swahili Islamic architecture.
