Some of the most important work in a house eventually disappears from sight: reinforcement goes inside concrete, pipes go behind finishes and electrical conduits disappear into walls.

That is why important work should be checked at the appropriate stage, before it is covered and becomes harder to inspect, correct or access.

When buying construction materials, it's tempting to focus on the lowest price you can find.

But the cheaper option isn't automatically the better choice.

You also need to consider whether the material is appropriate for the intended application, meets the required specification, is available in the quantity you need and can be delivered and stored properly.

Buying the wrong material cheaply can be more expensive than buying the right material at a higher initial price.

The better question isn't always:
“Where is it cheapest?”

It's: “What does the project require, and which option meets that requirement?”
