1️⃣ Is my climate suitable?

If your farm is in a suitable highland or moderately warm area with good sunlight, you may have an opportunity worth exploring.
2️⃣ Does my farm have good drainage?
This is one of the things farmers sometimes overlook.
Blood orange trees do not like sitting in water. Choose land where excess water can drain away easily. Avoid poorly drained areas and heavy waterlogged soils.
Before planting, look at your farm after rainfall. Where does water collect? Where does it disappear quickly?
That simple observation can save you years of disappointment.

Rainfall alone may not always be reliable, especially when the trees are young and during fruit development.
A reliable water source makes orchard management much easier. With proper irrigation, mulching and good soil management, you can keep your trees growing steadily even when the rains become unpredictable.
4️⃣ Who will buy my oranges?
Don't wait until your trees are full of fruit to start thinking about the market.
Think ahead.
Will you sell to fresh fruit vendors? Supermarkets? Juice processors? Hotels and restaurants? Direct consumers?
The best farmer doesn't simply ask, "How many fruits can I produce?"
They also ask, "Where will my fruits go when I harvest?"
And this is where planning your orchard properly can make a huge difference.
