ARCHBISHOP of the Archdiocese of Lusaka, Dr. Alick Banda, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of unlawful possession of property (vehicle) believed to have been obtained unlawfully.

It is alleged that between April 22, 2021 and December 27, 2023, Dr. Banda had in his possession a blue Toyota Hilux registration number ALF 7734, property reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained from the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), with reports indicating that the vehicle was a gift from Zambian former Head of State Edgar Lungu.

The charge was read before the Lusaka Magistrate's Court, where the Archbishop denied the charge.

Uganda's First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga has urged job seekers to verify employment offers before travelling or paying fees, following reports that youths were lured by fake social media adverts, confined and exploited.

Speaking at Busoga Prayer Week in Mayuge District, Kadaga said some victims had sought help from Kasese and Busia after being drawn into illegal mining and other unlawful activities.

She acknowledged the pressure of unemployment but urged applicants to confirm that employers and vacancies are genuine.

East Africa Court of Justice will in November 27 deliver a ruling that may scrap some powers off President Salva Kiir’s hands.

A South Sudanese lawyer wants the regional court to block Kiir from directly appointing 17 of the 270 MPs to Parliament, after elections.

South Sudan is set to hold her first ever general election on 22 December, a poll where Kiir is the only candidate allowed to ‘campaign’ freely ahead of the historic elections.

South Sudan’s Transitional Constitution allows the president to appoint MPs, Governors, Ministers, Undersecretaries, parastatal heads, Mayors etc.

A heartbreaking tragedy has struck Lake Tanganyika.

At least 41 people have lost their lives after a boat travelling from Kigoma, Tanzania, to Kalemie in the Democratic Republic of Congo capsized near Mapera village.

The vessel was reportedly carrying around 100 passengers along with cargo. In the early hours of the morning, at around 1:00 a.m., passengers were awakened to the terrifying realization that the boat was tilting to one side. Within moments, what had been an ordinary journey became a desperate fight for survival.

Although 49 people were rescued, many others remained missing as search and rescue operations continued. Behind every number is a mother, father, child, brother, sister, friend or loved one whose family is now facing unimaginable grief.

What makes this tragedy even more painful is that it comes less than a month after another vessel operating on the same Kigoma–Kalemie route caught fire and exploded at Kigoma port, claiming the lives of six crew members.

May those who lost their lives rest in eternal peace, and may God comfort the families who are now waiting, grieving and searching for answers.

Uganda's Veteran politician and women’s rights activist Miria Matembe has gone missing, with her family appealing to the public for information about her whereabouts after security operatives raided her home earlier this week.

Media personality JK Kazoora, a relative of Matembe, said the family has been unable to trace her and fears she may have been picked up by security personnel while out jogging.

“They went to her home in Luzira, but she was not there because she had gone jogging. We suspect they could have met her while jogging and taken her,”~Kazoora said, urging anyone with information to contact the family.

The appeal comes days after security operatives raided Matembe’s home in Luzira.

According to her husband, Nehemiah Matembe, the operatives searched the house without identifying themselves or explaining why they had come. He said they left without finding her.

According to yesterday's DNA results at Uganda Police Force Headquarters in Kampala,only 4 out of 25 children tested are confirmed to be fathered by the late Ugandan veteran Singer Paul Kafeero.

However the alleged children of the late Singer whose DNA results did not confirm them as biological children are demanding another DNA test.

They argue that the results could have been misinterpreted suggesting that the four confirmed children could be the ones who are not biologically related, while 21 could be Kafeero's biological children.

They insist that it is hard to believe that out of 25 claimants only Four Children are his.
