Design LOOP is a project that reinterprets reclaimed materials, existing resources, and the wisdom inherited through local traditions and culture, transforming them into new value.
In an era of resource shortages and rising material costs, we believe it is essential not only to create new things, but also to make use of the materials, techniques, and spatial knowledge that already exist around us.
Japan has a long tradition of sustainable craftsmanship rooted in the spirit of mottainai—a respect for resources and an aversion to waste. Practices such as rammed earth construction, kintsugi, sashiko, and sakiori embody this philosophy. These traditions are not merely forms of reuse; they are ways of carrying forward time, memory, and cultural knowledge while creating new value.
Through the circulation of both materials and wisdom, Design LOOP explores new approaches to design and space-making that foster meaningful connections between people.
