スイス研修では、スイスの織物メーカー・RUCKSTUHL（ルクスツール）も訪問しました。
工場では、素材ごとの個性を見極めながら、一つひとつの工程を丁寧に仕上げる職人の方々の仕事を見学。機械だけでは補えない部分を、人の手と経験が支えています。建築もまた、こうした多くの職人の仕事によって成り立っています。
スイスで目にしたのは、職人の技術やものづくりの文化が、今も社会の中で確かな役割を担っている姿でした。教育制度や地域産業のあり方も含め、技術を受け継ぎながら働くことが自然な選択肢の一つとなっています。
ものづくりを支える人々の存在が強く印象に残る訪問となりました。

During our study trip to Switzerland, we also visited the Swiss textile manufacturer RUCKSTUHL.
At the factory, we observed skilled craftspeople carefully completing each step of the production process while responding to the unique character of every material. Their craftsmanship, experience, and judgment support what machines alone cannot achieve. Architecture, too, is made possible through the work of many skilled hands.
Throughout Switzerland, we saw how craftsmanship and manufacturing continue to play an important role in society. Supported by the country's educational system and regional industries, inheriting technical skills remains a respected and natural career path.
The visit left a lasting impression of the people whose dedication forms the foundation of making.

昨年、小堀哲夫建築設計事務所ではスイス各地を巡る研修旅行を行いました。
クリエーションバウマン本社の工場見学では、デザインから糸の発色、染色、裁縫までファブリック製造のすべての工程を見せていただき、さらにはデザイナーの方から、地道なプロセスを経て世界中に届けられるファブリックの開発ストーリーを伺いました。
また翌日には、小堀がスイスの建築家やデザイナーの方々を前に講演させていただく機会もいただきました。講演会のあとは、クリエーションバウマンの歴史が詰まった本社ロビーで、スイスと日本の料理を組み合わせた食卓をおもてなしいただきました。こうして、皆さまと意見交換をしながら、お互いに見たことや感じたことを共有する時間を大切にしています。
クリエーションバウマン本社のあるランゲンタールの街歩きでは、人が立ち止まり、語り合うための余白が、街や暮らしの中に自然に存在しており、公共空間のあり方を改めて考えさせられました。

Last year, Tetsuo Kobori Architects traveled across Switzerland for a study tour.
At the Creation Baumann headquarters, we toured the factory and had the opportunity to observe every stage of textile production—from design, yarn coloration, dyeing, and sewing to the final fabric. We also heard directly from the designers about the extensive process behind developing textiles that are delivered to projects around the world.
The following day, Tetsuo Kobori gave a lecture to an audience of Swiss architects and designers. After the lecture, we were warmly welcomed with a dinner combining Swiss and Japanese cuisine in the company's historic headquarters lobby. Exchanging ideas and sharing what we have seen and experienced with one another is an important part of our study trips.
Walking through Langenthal, where Creation Baumann is based, we noticed how spaces for people to pause, gather, and talk are naturally woven into everyday life. It was an opportunity to reflect once again on the role of public space in our cities.

Tetsuo Kobori will speak at JAPAN BUILD OSAKA 2026 on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
In this lecture, titled "How Space Shapes People: Creating Places for Social Co-Creation," he will present Common Nexus, a collaborative hub at the Tokai National Higher Education and Research System that is open to both the university and the wider community.
Reflecting on the project's design and operational process, the lecture will explore how architecture can foster connections between people and society, and discuss the evolving role of architecture in creating places for collaboration.

先日、銀座街づくり会議・銀座デザイン協議会が主催するシンポジウム〈デザインレビュー 交差点から生まれる光 - 「銀座ヴィジョン2040」を支える風景〉が開催され、小堀が登壇いたしました。

現在建て替えが進められている、新しい三愛ドリームセンターの設計者として小堀が基調講演を行い、銀座四丁目交差点の地理的・歴史的背景や旧ビルの建設理念を振り返るとともに、新しいビル設計への思いや今後の思いについて発表いたしました。

講演後のパネルディスカッションでは、2025年のデザイン協議案件の振り返りを含め、未来の銀座の街づくりに向けた活発な議論が交わされました。

Tetsuo Kobori spoke at the symposium “Design Review: Light Emerging from Intersections - Scenery Supporting Ginza Vision 2040,” hosted by the Ginza Urban Design Meeting and Ginza Design Council.

As the architect responsible for the rebuilding project of the new “San-ai Dream Center,” Kobori delivered the keynote lecture. He reviewed the geographical and historical context of the iconic Ginza 4-chome intersection along with the design philosophy of the original building, while presenting his concepts and visions for the new architecture.

The lecture was followed by a panel discussion reviewing the 2025 design consultation cases and exploring the future of Ginza’s urban development.

【Exhibition Announcement】
Photographer Shin Yamagishi’s exhibition, KAO: Faces of Japan, scene1226–1321, is now being held.
“KAO” is a portrait series that Yamagishi has continued to photograph over many years. This exhibition presents portraits of 96 individuals active across a wide range of fields, including sports, culture, the arts, academia, and business.
Tetsuo Kobori was also photographed for the series, and his portrait is included in the exhibition.

7月6日（月）、銀座街づくり会議・銀座デザイン協議会主催のデザインレビュー「交差点から生まれる光 ―『銀座ヴィジョン2040』を支える風景」に登壇いたします。

銀座は、大小さまざまな通りが交差することで独自の風景と個性を育んできた街です。
現在、銀座4丁目交差点では三愛ドリームセンターの建替えが進み、長く親しまれてきた風景が新たな彩りを迎えています。

街路や交差点が、人々の活動や交流をどのように支えているのか。
銀座という街の風景が、これからどのように育まれていくのか。

On July 6, Tetsuo Kobori will speak at the Design Review symposium, “Light Emerging from Intersections: The Landscape Supporting GINZA VISION 2040,” organized by the Ginza Machidukuri Council and the Ginza Design Council.

Ginza has cultivated its distinctive character and urban landscape through a rich network of streets and intersections. Today, the redevelopment of the San-ai Dream Center at the iconic Ginza 4-chome intersection marks a new chapter in the district’s evolving cityscape.

How do streets and intersections support human activity and interaction?
How might the urban landscape of Ginza continue to evolve in the years ahead?
In the keynote lecture, “Light Emerging from Intersections,” Kobori will reflect on these questions and explore the future of Ginza through the lens of the intersection as a vital urban node, drawing on ongoing projects and recent developments.
