Removed from the openness of the restaurant, the restroom unfolds as a space of its own. Rounded corners, textured walls and a luminous ceiling dissolve the room’s edges, creating an atmosphere that feels enclosed, soft and almost primordial.

Light washes across the textured plaster, revealing its depth, while a continuous stainless steel band integrates a monolithic suspended basin. Reduced to a handful of elements, the space relies on light, texture and proportion.

Conceived as a room within the room, this space shifts between a workshop, a private dining area and a shared table without ever changing its architecture. A single stainless steel volume defines its centre, a precise geometric object whose integrated light concentrates attention on the surface below, whether for making, meeting or eating.

Positioned beneath the original clock set into the marble band, the table reclaims the space’s former point of orientation. Together with the black marble traces marking the former phone booths, these retained elements anchor the new intervention within the building’s original program.

The building’s greatest gesture is not its concrete mass, but the openness of its ground floor. A continuous glazed plinth opens directly onto I.L. Caragiale Park, bringing the landscape into the daily life of the building. Beneath the sculptural upper volumes, a generous canopy cuts through the glass, marking the entrance.

Running the full length of the façade, a linear bench gathers the restaurant around its most public edge. It frames views towards the park while drawing everyday activity against the glass, making the interior part of the streetscape.

The material palette follows the same quiet approach as the intervention itself. Existing marble was carefully restored and preserved, becoming the point of departure for a restrained dialogue with stainless steel and oak, materials that feel equally rooted in the building’s late-modernist character while introducing a new layer of use.

At the entrance, this dialogue continues in the shop, developed together with Ototo. Conceived as a monumental stainless steel library, it frames the arrival, displaying a curated selection of objects while subtly announcing the building’s new public life.

Designed by Vasile Mitrea in the late 1960s, the Telephone Palace was built in two phases: the first established its compact Brutalist mass, while a later addition introduced the glazed top floor that defines its silhouette today.

Its architecture was never conceived as a purely formal exercise. The irregular placement of the openings, what Mitrea described as a “programmed disorder”, responded as much to the technical demands of the building’s function as to the heavy masonry of the neighbouring Franciscan Monastery. Built from prefabricated concrete panels of varying depths and finished with exposed marble aggregate, the façade uses texture and shadow to shape its architectural expression.

The transparency of the ground floor establishes a direct relationship with the park, while the prefabricated concrete language of the façade carries seamlessly into the interior through the coffered ceiling.

New setting for Eggcetera, located within Cluj-Napoca’s Telephone Palace, a late-modernist landmark designed by architect Vasile Mitrea, where the expressive weight of Brutalist architecture meets the precision of a building conceived for technology.

Rather than imposing a new identity, the project works through careful calibration. Original features, the coffered ceiling, the marble band with its integrated clock, and the surviving finishes became the anchors of the design. New interventions are reduced to their essentials, both in geometry and materiality, quietly framing a new programme while allowing the building’s architectural character to remain unmistakably present.

Last year’s exhibition setup for the H&M Studio A/W 2025 collection.

THE APARTMENT imagines the private space of a woman. Built from a simple framework of concrete and aluminium, with surfaces left raw and unfinished, the installation functions as a lived-in structure rather than a display. The collection is integrated into the space, becoming part of its everyday atmosphere and narrative.
