WAVe 2026 — Università Iuav di Venezia

As part of its ongoing research into contemporary public space, Enrico Dusi Studio led a workshop as part of WAVe 2026 at Università Iuav di Venezia, using the design of the new Rialto Market—the studio’s first project in the historic centre of Venice, currently under construction—as its case study.
Working with 60 students, the workshop explored the future of the Venetian campo through 10 questions and 10 pairs of alternative design scenarios, investigating how public space might respond to the social, economic and cultural transformations reshaping the city.
Rather than proposing definitive solutions, the research positions architectural design as a critical tool for testing ideas, questioning established assumptions and imagining new forms of public life.
The outcomes of the workshop were exhibited in Hall O2 at the Cotonificio, Università Iuav di
Venezia, during WAVe 2026 and as part of the celebrations marking the University’s 100th
anniversary

ARCHIVIO, 2025

The new Veneto Region Archive stands within a landscape of infrastructures, industrial sheds, and productive volumes.
Compact and austere, the building asserts its own autonomy: monumental, yet without rhetoric.
Between monument and warehouse, permanence and growth, its identity lies in ambiguity. A form conceived to evolve over time, gradually defining a new landmark for the contemporary productive landscape.

PARK 03.

The project creates a new public square for everyday life, seasonal activities, and community events. The design preserves the green character of the area while introducing the civic identity of a traditional paved piazza.

The result is a garden-square: a hybrid public space where landscape and urban space coexist through an “archipelago square” system — a flexible composition of green and paved islands that adapts to different uses, events, and seasons.

CENTRO MANIN, 2026

Ongoing project for the restoration and adaptive reuse of a 1930s building in Cavallino-Treporti, envisioned as a new cultural and exhibition hub for the city. The ground floor will host exhibition and public cultural spaces, while the upper level will accommodate community associations and a flexible multi-purpose hall. The project also redefines the surrounding open space: the existing fence is removed to reconnect the site with the pedestrian and cycling network, transforming the area in front of the cultural center into a true urban park, open, accessible, and integrated with the public realm.

RIALTO MARKET, 2026

Redevelopment of the historic Rialto Market in Venice.
The project transforms the existing fruit and vegetable market with a new 42 × 24 meter steel roof, overlooking the Grand Canal and responding directly to its historic surroundings.
To minimize construction impact, the existing columns are preserved in their original positions,
anchoring the intervention to the memory of the site.
A series of autonomous dual-pitched elements merge into a single architectural gesture — like a
large origami resting lightly above the market.

PIAZZA DEL POPOL GIOST

The project focuses on the spatial and functional redevelopment of Piazza del Popol Giost in Reggio Emilia. The area features a long, continuous bench, interrupted only by access points, serving as a distinctive and unifying element of the new urban space. Additionally, 50% of the existing asphalt surface is removed to accommodate a significant number of tall trees and bushes. A water misting system is integrated to enhance climate comfort during the summer months and encourage people to stay. The design approach is based on principles of urban space adaptability to climate change, transforming this redeveloped area into a site of significant environmental and landscape value.

PARK 01

The park is characterized by a series of “rooms,” each defining a distinct use of space.
Every function is associated with a specific environment, defined by its shape and size.
The park appears as a sequence of self-contained spaces connected by pathways, featuring areas for sports and shaded zones for relaxation.
