🇬🇧 In July a group of Master of Architecture students from the University of Bath (UK) wrote to us. As part of the Regenerative Cities Design Studio, they chose Taranto as the subject of an urban study and a masterplan proposal. They asked us for materials, advice and a view on which parts of the city to look at more closely.
In early October we welcomed them to our studio, in the former nautical shed of the port area. It was this very building that had caught their curiosity: the reuse of a disused industrial fabric is one of the central themes of their research.
We talked about the Città Vecchia, the Mar Piccolo, industrial transition and what it means to design in a city as complex as ours. They left us this thank-you card, but we are the ones who should thank them. Seeing Taranto through the eyes of those discovering it for the first time reminds us how much potential it still has to express. We can’t wait to see your final proposals!
