The Chromo-March for the Cervo River was a collective procession developed as part of Spell of Color, the seventh UNIDEE Residency Module of the programme Languages, Please, part of UNIDEE Residency Programs at Fondazione Pistoletto Cittadellarte.

Following a situated walk along the Cervo, a river that flows through Biella carrying with it the traces of textile histories, industrial infrastructures, pollution and altered ecologies, we developed a colour palette drawn from our encounters with the river and its surrounding landscapes.

Yet these colours did not describe the river as it appears. They were not intended as objective tones or visual transcriptions. Instead, they became signifiers: names, concepts and propositions through which to think with the river rather than simply represent it.

From this palette, we first wrote an ethical and poetic manifesto in which each colour opened a different position from which to speak about the river. Later, these colours reappeared as banners, carried through the city in a collective procession. Mixed with slogans, fragments of text and other signs, they formed a language that was at once familiar and opaque.

The procession moved towards the point from which the industrial buildings that once depended upon the river become visible, before continuing into the centre of Biella. Along the way, the banners attempted to give voice to a more-than-human subject that rarely enters public discourse except as resource, infrastructure or backdrop.

The river did not speak in a language of clarity: it spoke through codes, colours, interruptions and ambiguities.
Perhaps this apparent opacity was precisely the point: not every voice needs to be immediately understood in order to be heard. Sometimes attention begins with a disruption, with a language that resists optimisation, translation and easy consumption: for a brief moment, the streets of Biella became a space in which the Cervo River could speak back.

After a situated walk that brought us closer to the Cervo River as it flows through Biella, we began working on a palette that could speak with and around it.

The Cervo is not only a river crossing the city, but a body of water marked by the industrial histories that have shaped the territory around it. Its course carries traces of textile production, urban infrastructures, altered ecologies and forms of pollution that complicate any purely scenic or natural reading of the landscape.

Rather than treating colour as an objective transcription of what we had seen, each colour was developed as a signifier: an arbitrary concept, a sensitive fragment, a way of holding together perception, memory, material condition and environmental concern.

From this palette, we moved towards the writing of an ethical and poetic manifesto. The colours did not name stable shades, but opened possible positions from which to speak about the river: its presence, its altered ecologies, its wounds, its opacity, its resistance to being fully translated.
Each colour was accompanied by a footnote, expanding the concept it carried and giving form to a kind of resistant writing. A writing that resists optimisation, efficiency and immediate comprehension. A writing that does not need to be fully understood in order to act.

In this sense, the manifesto accepted and embraced its own apparent lack of sense as a militant condition: a refusal of clarity as extraction, and an attempt to remain with what is unstable, excessive, plural and not easily absorbed.

Grateful to have taken part in Spell of Color, the seventh UNIDEE Residency Module of the programme Languages, Please, part of UNIDEE Residency Programs at Fondazione Pistoletto Cittadellarte, curated by Nina Fiocco (Nina Fiocco) and Gaia Martino (.mar).

Held from 15–19 June 2026, the module unfolded with Marina De Caro (Marina De Caro), member of cromoactivismo, exploring colour as a poetic and political practice: a sensitive, collective and plural form of knowledge capable of putting dominant narratives under tension.

Across conversations, exercises and shared gestures, colour became a way to think through perception, bodies, language, care and collective protocols — not simply as something to be seen, but as something that acts, unsettles and opens other possibilities of relation.

For the first time, I will be reading a selection of my eco-poems in London, as part of “Poems About Nothing” at Grosvenor Gallery, during London Gallery Weekend.

The evening celebrates the work of artist and poet George Claessen, whose writing emerged, in his own words, from “an urge for expression in another form” — a movement between painting and poetry, image and language, abstraction and existential reflection.

The poems I will read emerge from Eroded Ecologies, my research on the Venetian Lagoon initiated at the Centre for Research Architecture, Goldsmiths, University of London, and published in Echoes by CRA Press. My reading will bring together poems rooted in ecological attention, more-than-human presences, and the fragile forms through which landscapes speak, remember, and resist.

I’m happy to announce that I will be taking part in EDERA, a group exhibition at the Castello Superiore di Marostica, running from 12 December 2025 to 11 January 2026.
Opening: 12 December, 6pm

Named after ivy — an ancient, familiar plant that threads through centuries and cultures by clinging, embracing, and holding — EDERA reflects on this gesture of attachment as a form of care. Set within the historic walls of the Castello Superiore, the exhibition brings new life into its spaces, much like ivy healing over stone. In the same way, art moves through the fractures of our territory, offering attention, breath, and repair.

The invited artists — Alberto Scodro, Giulio Polloniato, Link Hg, Lucia Bonomo, Riccardo Rizzetto, and Sandro Bonomo — engage in an intimate dialogue with the local landscape: a place suspended between precarity and wonder; sometimes an abyss, sometimes a quiet terrain of relations, clarity, and small astonishments. EDERA becomes a mirror of who we are: our contradictions, traditions, memories, and hopes that inhabit mountain quarries, riverbeds, and the murmurs of the hills.
