NEW – Neighbourhood for Educational Wonder applies urban mining strategies to turn the remnants of the past into a foundation for the future.
Created by Scandurra Studio in collaboration with GRA Architects, in Ukraine, NEW goes beyond being a school: it’s a vision of renewal for communities affected by war.
At the heart of the project is urban mining: reclaiming materials from the existing cityscape, transforming debris and fragments into resources for what comes next. Every brick, beam, and element tells a story of resilience, converting loss into learning, waste into value, and ruin into hope.
Designed to be modular, circular, and fully disassemblable, NEW represents a new kind of architecture, one that nurtures, heals, and turns sustainability into a shared act of care.
Vulnerability takes many forms: conflict, disaster, destruction, displacement. In this context, rebuilding is not just a task, it’s a responsibility.
