Casa della Serenità
(meaning „House of Serenity” in Italian)
This name conveys a sense of peace and tranquility, aligning with the spiritual atmosphere of the center without directly referencing pilgrims. It emphasizes the calm and reflective nature of the space, making it a serene retreat for all visitors.
The design concept emphasizes simplicity and purity, creating a calm atmosphere that contrasts sharply with the surrounding architecture. A key feature of the building is its white textured facade, which enhances this contrast, offering a clean, pure look that stands out in its environment.
Through this thoughtful design, the center balances functionality with a peaceful, reflective space, aligning with the spiritual nature of a pilgrimage.
The primary concept of the Pilgrims’ Center is to create a building that respects and enhances the existing architectural context while establishing a clear visual contrast. The design incorporates two main volumes: one serving as an entrance to the nearby church, where visitors can explore the bookstore and enjoy elevated views of the church; and the second, larger volume, which houses the hotel. This hotel features open terraces that allow guests to relax, take in the surrounding views, and appreciate the historical structure of the church from outside their rooms.
A key feature of the project is the thoughtfully designed path that invites visitors to experience the church from multiple perspectives. This path wraps around the church, starting from the eastern side and encircling the church tower, offering a comprehensive and immersive view of the struc-ture. The combination of simplicity in design, with clean white textures contrasting against the historical surroundings, creates a striking dialogue between the new and the old, allowing the Pilgrims’ Center to complement and highlight the beauty of the church while providing modern, functional spaces for rest and reflection.
