【Cerdà Once More: Renovation on Les Tres Xemeneies, Barcelona】
“Cerdà Grid”, The Eixample, 19th-century "extension" of Barcelona, is a famous urban planning case of Barcelona made by Ildefons Cerdà i Sunyer—— a Spanish urban planner and engineer.

Les Tres Xemeneies, also known as 3X Area(3 chimneies) , was formerly a thermal power plant by the coastline near Barcelona. This time we aim to adapt it to the urban texture, respect the industrial context of the site, and try to rebuild the memory of this old thermal power plant. The power plant generates heat, which just like this city's passion, grows and spreads through 3X Area, constantly iterating and renewing. In terms of planning and landscape design, the “Cerdà Grid” has been modernized and translated in accordance with the urban fabric. Three key words run through our program, from urban planning to landscape to architecture and even interior -- passion, growing and roaming. A red highlighted roaming system (elevated walkway outdoors & indoors）seems to grow from the city to the seaside, connecting the city with human activities and nature through roaming, and further transmitting the passion of the city here. In terms of architecture, while retaining the original column grid structure, the space is redivided and connected, two "stair is the stage" volumes are inserted . We make the coastal facade stylized and more transparent with a more friendly and welcoming attitude towards open space and public. There are a lot of holes in the original floor, which we regard as an important place memory and design element. The red roaming system ascends all the way like stitching the holes in the original space and making it regenerate. When roaming, you can take in the industrial atmosphere of the place and even sit on the ground, and you will always be curious about what kind of scenery you will encounter at the next corner.


We name our project Cerdà Once More, as yesterday once more, we respect time, respect the past of the site, the three chinmeys, the Famous city plan of Cerdà Grid , also respect to this passionate nation.

【BOX CITY: Riverside Cultural Square in Shenzhen Based On 28-containers】
【集装箱城市|用28个集装箱改造的深圳新洲集装箱文化广场】

As a young immigrant city, Shenzhen is being confronted with the challenges by the lack of historical background, cultural resonance and group relationship when developing. Citizens who go back and forth between independent apartments and offices monotonously day after day seem to put themselves into one closed "BOX" , the same as how the mass of containers are piled up and transported to the port of Shenzhen from all over the world. To some extent, container (BOX) is the cultural symbol of Shenzhen. So this culture square, located by the Xinzhou River of Shenzhen and named by "BOX CITY", consists of 28 containers and makes great use of containers' characters in cultural identity, sustainability, innovative use and diversity of combinations to create a cultural card. More importantly, it encouranges "standardized" urban residents step out of their "standardized" living environment and start to have deeper, creative and dynamic connections with others, as how the containers there do.
深圳作为一个年轻的移民城市，在发展过程中面临着历史背景、文化共鸣和群体关系缺失的挑战。日复一日单调地往返于独立公寓和办公室之间的市民，似乎把自己置身于一个封闭的“盒子”中，就像从世界各地堆起来的大量集装箱被运往深圳港口一样。在某种程度上，集装箱是深圳的文化名片。因此，这个位于深圳新洲河畔，被称为“BOX CITY”的集装箱文化广场，由28个集装箱组成，充分利用了集装箱在文化符号、可持续性、创新利用、组合多样性等方面的特点，打造了一张文化名片。更重要的是，它鼓励“标准化”的城市居民走出他们的“标准化”生活环境，开始与他人有更深层次的、创造性的、动态的联系，就像那里的集装箱一样。
