Stefano Bassan and Gianluca Sigismondi take us behind the scenes of the collection, exploring terracotta through the ever-changing nature of clay and the movement of living organisms.

Born from an ongoing dialogue between Finemateria and Fornace Brioni, a single biomorphic element takes shape across floors, wall coverings, mosaics and objects, celebrating the natural imperfections, textures and three-dimensional qualities of the material. A collection shaped by collaboration, experimentation and a shared sensitivity to clay.

Earlier this year, we welcomed the children from Arcobaleno Preschool in Guastalla, sharing a little piece of our world with them. They discovered clay by touching it, shaping it, asking questions, and creating small objects with their own hands.

Opening the doors of our Fornace also means this: sharing the knowledge that belongs to our history and seeing it, each time, through new eyes.

For Microbia, designed by , that element is a single biomorphic tile. Inspired by the invisible world of microorganisms, its organic shape repeats and evolves, generating dynamic surfaces that are never exactly the same.

By combining two different tile heights, the Clay Mosaic creates a continuous rhythm where light, shadow and the natural character of clay become part of the composition.

Clay Mosaic is the starting point of Microbia collection.

Today marks the closing of Esclusivo | Inclusivo, the EDIT Napoli project that transformed Villa Rosa in Anacapri into a place where design, architecture and the Mediterranean landscape came together in dialogue.
Within this unique setting, Fornace Brioni, in collaboration with , presented a collection of sculptural terracotta vases by , developed through an exploration of clay as an expressive material and shaped by the encounter between artistic research and artisanal craftsmanship.

Before becoming objects, these vases were a dialogue with the material.
In this conversation, and Fornace Brioni reflect on clay as a living medium, one that cannot be fully controlled, but listened to.
This collection of sculptural terracotta vases explores the expressive potential of a material shaped as much by gesture as by fire. Gesture, time and matter shape each piece, making every vase unique by imperfection.

The collection was unveiled as a preview during Esclusivo | Inclusivo, the EDIT Napoli format hosted at Villa Rosa in Anacapri.

MICROBIA COLLECTION, 3daysofdesign, Framing, Copenaghen

Microbia, a new collection by explores the world of microorganisms and natural systems through ceramic surfaces shaped by repetition, movement, and material depth. The collection starts from the mosaic, reimagining a single biomorphic tile as a miniature organism.

In this process, clay, with its inherent qualities, becomes an integral part of the design narrative, where imperfections, colour variations, and textural nuances contribute to the uniqueness of each composition. Through repetition and juxtaposition, the individual element generates ever-changing configurations that evoke natural processes of growth and transformation.

The colour palette balances material continuity with new expressive possibilities: the 3D wall and flooring elements use Fornace Brioni’s five traditional terracotta shades, rooted in the material’s heritage, while the mosaic introduces bolder tones, resulting in a language that preserves the brand’s identity while becoming more essential and contemporary.

Microbia collection by began with the mosaic and the design of a single tile element, imagined as a small organism — a microbe or worm-like shape. Through repetition and different combinations, this module creates ever-changing compositions, generating a sense of organic flow and continuous movement across the surface.

Clay itself becomes an integral part of the narrative. Naturally alive and imperfect, the material enhances the softness of the forms and creates a vibrant surface animated by light, texture, and subtle irregularities.
