I am honoured by the article (link in bio) published today on AD Italia about my design for a studio in Todi.
The project draws inspiration from examples of ancient studiolos and seeks to distil some of their fundamental elements – including a very specific sense of atmosphere – translating, reinterpreting and adapting them to contemporary living;
This project embodies much of my design philosophy, as the article aptly describes: it draws inspiration from atmospheres that draw their lifeblood from the past and seeks, creatively, to bring them back to life today – never as a mere reproduction, but as a genuine creative and design endeavour;
There is also a fusion here between my design work and my search for works of art – be they paintings, furniture or decorative objects – which have mutually informed both the design of the spaces housing the works and the search for the works themselves;
I must thank the invaluable craftspeople who work with me and my team and who have contributed – and continue to contribute significantly – to the success of my projects: joiners, restorers, decorators, glassmakers, gilders and bronze casters, to name but a few. They are a national treasure and, sadly, increasingly a rarity… one that artificial intelligence is unlikely ever to replace;
Finally, thanks to the poetic eye of Paolo Abate , a refined photographer who has captured the essence of these spaces and to my clients that believed and enhanced our shared vision;
