Vista Ostuni has achieved LEED Gold certification, an internationally recognized standard for sustainable building design and environmental performance.
The transformation of a former to***co factory into a sustainable luxury hotel demonstrates how architectural heritage and environmental responsibility can coexist.
With over 90% of the original structure preserved, a -30% energy consumption reduction , and water savings of up to 70%, the project reflects an integrated approach to sustainability.
As sustainability and LEED consultants, Weber Architects supported the project throughout the design process, integrating strategies focused on resource efficiency, environmental performance, and guest well-being.

VISTA OSTUNI | CERTIFICAZIONE LEED GOLD
Vista Ostuni ha ottenuto la certificazione LEED Gold, uno standard riconosciuto a livello internazionale per la sostenibilità degli edifici e le prestazioni ambientali.
La trasformazione di un’ex Manifattura Tabacchi in un hotel di lusso sostenibile dimostra come la valorizzazione del patrimonio architettonico e la responsabilità ambientale possano coesistere.
Con oltre il 90% della struttura originaria conservata, una riduzione dei consumi energetici del -30% e un risparmio idrico fino al 70%, il progetto riflette un approccio integrato alla sostenibilità.
In qualità di consulente sostenibilità e LEED, Weber Architects ha supportato il progetto durante il processo di progettazione, integrando strategie orientate all’efficienza delle risorse, alle prestazioni ambientali e al benessere degli ospiti.

Giardino Italiano, an international landscape architecture magazine published by PAYSAGE , features an in-depth article on Vista Ostuni, the redevelopment of the former To***co Factory into a sustainable luxury hotel.
The article focuses particularly on the landscape design by Erik Dhont, featuring an interview that explores the vision and design approach behind the green spaces and their dialogue with the architecture.
The project, designed by RMA – Roberto Murgia Architetto, also involved Weber Architects, responsible for the sustainability strategy that led to LEED certification. This included the integration of energy efficiency and water conservation strategies, with particular attention to indoor and outdoor comfort and guest well-being.

Nature and Public Space
Cities are changing, and so are the climatic conditions that shape them.
The design of public space must respond to this transformation by creating places that provide environmental comfort, support biodiversity, and enhance the everyday experience of the people who use them.
The space between buildings is not an empty void to be filled, but an ecological and social infrastructure.

Orientation, vegetation, materials, and soil permeability are essential design tools for creating environments that are more resilient, more accessible, and better able to promote well-being.

Every place tells the story of how a community lives together.

It is a dynamic system where environmental, social, and infrastructural components continuously interact.

Microclimate, vegetation, mobility, density, open spaces, and services all contribute to the quality of the urban environment.

Any intervention in one part of the system inevitably influences its overall balance.

This is why urban design requires an integrated understanding of context one that simultaneously considers environmental performance, climate behaviour, and the impact on everyday life.

È un sistema dinamico in cui componenti ambientali, sociali e infrastrutturali interagiscono continuamente.

Responsibility is not the goal of a project. It is the method through which a project takes shape.

Every design decision has consequences—for the environment, for people, for resources, and for the way a city functions.

Orientation, materials, vegetation, water management, microclimatic comfort, and accessibility: no design decision is ever neutral.

Designing responsibly means recognising these relationships and taking responsibility for every choice, carefully considering its long-term impact.

This is where the true value of a project begins.

Ogni scelta progettuale produce conseguenze: sull'ambiente, sulle persone, sulle risorse e sul funzionamento della città.
