VILLA MOMI
Moltrasio, Como - Italy
The project involves the design of a luxury private villa located in a dominant panoramic position overlooking Lake Como, conceived with a strong and deliberate relationship to the surrounding natural landscape.
The architectural concept is based on the creation of two distinct volumes that rise from the terrain, identical in scale yet differentiated by function and materiality. The first volume is entirely glazed, offering expansive views of the landscape and maximizing natural light throughout the interiors. The second volume is constructed entirely in stone, conveying a sense of solidity and establishing a deeper, more intimate connection with the mountainous context.
The remaining portions of the villa are carefully embedded into the terrain through the use of specialized reinforced earth structures, allowing the architecture to merge seamlessly with the mountain. The design approach renders the underground spaces almost invisible, with carefully positioned openings carved into the landscape, giving the impression that the villa naturally emerges from the terrain without disrupting its inherent beauty. The two volumes are connected both above ground and through an underground tunnel.
The interior design aims to create a welcoming and tranquil environment, responding directly to the clients’ desire for calm and serenity. Warm tones dominate the interiors, fostering a sense of intimacy and comfort. The primary material palette—travertine and wood—plays a fundamental role in achieving this atmosphere.
The soft hues and textures of these materials enhance the overall lightness of the architectural composition, generating a fluid and harmonious spatial experience. This design approach encourages the reflection and diffusion of natural light, reinforcing a sense of balance and creating a seamless dialogue between the villa and its surrounding environment.
