Competition, 2026, Honorable Mention
The New Multi-purpose Sports Hall is designed as a large open-plan space, capable
of accommodating the various recreational and sporting functions specified in the tender. The central area, defined by tiered seating for 350 spectators—which conceal the changing rooms and associated service areas—features a stage for cultural events, connected to a storage room and a loading and unloading area leading to the playing fields. On the first floor there is a south-facing loggia reserved for outdoor sports courses or activities, a further small public gym and an office space for the sports activities within the Sports District. The structure of the new building is entirely timber, ensuring compositional simplicity and speed of construction, utilising the short and sustainable supply chain of timber sourced from Carnia, Cadore or neighbouring Austria and Slovenia. The system of double-layered partitions and solid timber beams in the wooden structure contrasts with the south façade of the Student House, which is strongly characterised by partitions and concrete brise soleil.
