📍Godalming, England
In the English countryside near Godalming, Surrey, a few miles from London, a historic manor house from the early 1900s has been divided into individual residences, and Taramelli S.r.l., as general contractor, took on the restoration of one of them.
The layout unfolds from a generous living area, with a spacious sitting room, dining room and kitchen, into a sleeping wing of three bedrooms each with its own private bathroom. Beneath the moquette in the living room, the renovation uncovered the original wooden flooring, which was recovered and refinished, giving the space the warm, enveloping tones of wood that now define the room. In the tinello, demolition revealed a mosaic floor in green and red Egyptian porphyry, restored piece by piece where it could no longer stand on its own; the same approach was used for the white Naxos marble mosaics elsewhere in the house, for a total of 20,000 hand-laid tiles.
