Inside the St. Roch’s Convent Chapel, the experience is shaped by light and proportion. The altar is placed on the side directly opposite the entrance door, so that it becomes the natural focal point, allowing an intimate arrangement for the sisters during prayer. Small pivoted windows with stained glass bring in diffused colour, while the clerestory windows draw daylight from above without disturbing the quietness of the space.

Reclaimed wooden doors, exposed brick arches and niches, and the warm tones of the rat-trap bond walls give the interior a grounded, handcrafted feel. The intention was simple - to create a space that feels humble, familiar, and spiritually uplifting for everyday use.

A glimpse into the quiet atmosphere of the St. Roch’s Convent Chapel.

The space is designed to feel calm from the moment you step in - stained-glass openings soften the light, the clerestory windows lift it gently from above, and the octagonal plan brings everyone closer to the centre of prayer.

The chapel is modest in scale, but the way light moves through the day creates a sense of openness and warmth. Every material, from the reclaimed timber to the exposed brickwork, was chosen to feel familiar and grounded while keeping the space naturally cool and well-lit.

We are back with another completed project, a chapel built for the sisters of St. Roch's Convent. The St. Roch’s Convent Chapel sits quietly within the convent campus, shaped as an octagon to bring the sisters closer to the altar from every side. The exterior reflects the same simplicity the chapel carries inside - exposed brick detailing, reused Mangalore tiles on the sloping roof, and a gentle play of proportions that tie it back to the century-old convent building beside it.

The clerestory windows along the eight-sided roof are a key part of the design, allowing soft shafts of daylight into the prayer space throughout the day. Even from the outside, this light band becomes a subtle reminder of the calm interior within.

The Cottages ✨
Step inside and you’ll notice there are no walls breaking up the spaces. Instead, everything flows, a small living-cum-work nook, a snug bed space, a kitchen corner, and an attached bathroom, all designed for comfort and ease.

One of the cottages even has a ramp, making it universally accessible so that everyone feels welcome. The layout may be compact, but the design makes it feel cozy yet spacious, a little retreat where simplicity meets warmth. 🌿🏡

Steps with a Purpose 🚶‍♂️✨

These staircases are finished in red and yellow oxide, a sustainable alternative to conventional materials like vitrified tiles. By choosing oxide flooring, the design not only reduces carbon emissions but also brings a timeless, earthy charm.

The warm tones beautifully complement the exposed country-burnt brick structure, creating a seamless connection between the home’s aesthetic and its eco-conscious values. 🌿

The veranda – On the ground floor, each of the three cottage units has its own veranda, creating a seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors through large French windows that flood the interiors with natural light and fresh air. Elegant arches lend a cozy charm, while a unique partition wall made from reused beer bottles offers both privacy and an artistic touch. Light, air, and no walls in between ☀️

Upstairs, the kitchen and informal living are designed as one big, open space. No partitions, no barriers, just a smooth flow where cooking, chatting, and relaxing all happen together.

This openness brings in plenty of natural light and cross ventilation, making it feel brighter, breezier, and more connected. You can go from the sofa to the stove without feeling like you’ve stepped into a different room - it’s all one shared, easygoing space.
