FACT CHECK | Smart Meter Replacement
It has come to notice that certain reports and social media posts are circulating figures which significantly overstate the number of damaged smart meters pending replacement.
These meters are getting damaged mostly due to overloading, tampering and at times due to loose terminations.
To put the figures in correct perspective, out of "8.52 lakh" smart meters installed in the jurisdiction of KPDCL, around "29,000" meters have been reported as damaged so far. Of these, around "22,000" have already been replaced, while approximately "6,000-7,000" remain to be replaced.
The replacement is a continuous process with around "25" meters being replaced every day, and the remaining cases are being addressed progressively.
KPDCL is closely monitoring the replacement work and remains committed to addressing consumer concerns and keeping the public informed with accurate and verified information.
