Pedestrians actively seek shade and shadow in urban areas to stay cool, avoid extreme heat, and lower health risks from strong sunlight.

We recently had the opportunity to present a residential redevelopment project to CEPT University’s Postgraduate Urban Planning students and professors, along with Ar. Atharvi Netragaonkar. We shared our approach to redevelopment, highlighting the key processes, challenges and architectural considerations involved.

Today felt like one of those full-circle moments.

As a CEPT University alumnus, I got the opportunity to be on the other side of the screen — this time as a guest speaker for an online session with the Masters in Urban Planning students.

I had the privilege of sharing some of my experiences around private housing redevelopment and real estate micro-markets in Pune, along with a case study from one of our projects at Shilpi Architects & Planners - India.

There is something deeply nostalgic about returning to an institution that shaped the way I think about cities, but from a different seat.

Faculty of Planning CEPT University gave me the foundation, but the journey since has been shaped equally by mentors, family, colleagues and guides who have constantly challenged, supported and taught me along the way.

To be invited back to share a small part of that journey with the next generation of planners was both humbling and deeply gratifying.

Grateful to CEPT, to my mentors and guides, to my family, and to everyone who has been part of this journey.

Some journeys really do come full circle.

A session conducted by Atharvi Netragaonkar, Lead Architect & Urban Planner at Shilpi Architects & Planners, for the 4th Year B.Arch students at MIT School of Architecture, Loni Kalbhor

The session explored key concepts in urban redevelopment, housing, density, and community, with a focus on understanding redevelopment as a process that shapes not just buildings, but the larger urban fabric.

An engaging exchange with the next generation of architects and urban practitioners.
